Road Blocks road hogs

This morning, when I was taking my breakfast, I saw the headline in NST about police road blocks in KL. As I stay in PJ and work in KL, I decided to go off early to avoid any jam that might be built up because of the police road block.

Alas, even before I reached Federal Highway, I was caught in a jam in Jalan Utara around Filem Negera office. The jam was so bad it was not moving much.

It took me more about half an hour to reach Federal Highway, and there were at least 6 lanes of cars clogging the 4 lane Highway, not moving at all. Slowly , all the car inched forward, and by the time I reached the Arch, I could see the police road block. A few policemen were there closing 2 lanes of the road, leaving 2 lanes for the cars to squeeze  through. Despite the block, I did not see the policemen checking any cars, they just stood there observing the jam and the queue, and no attempt was made to peek into any cars or to stop any cars.

In my view, this is not really a road block, but rather to obstruct traffic. I do not really know why they want to do this. Every car becomes a road hog… How many thousands or ten of thousands are affected?

My daughter who is doing an attachment in HKL with some of her classmates was caught in the Sprint Highway jam too. I called her and told her to turn back and forego the day.

Why they need to slow the traffic , I really do not know. Thousands of motorists are delayed, and just imagine the time and the amount of money burned… Each car, by being in such a terrible jam, would have burned much more petrol than usual. Multiply this by tens of thousands, you have literally how much money being burned away?

Even if Anwar’s people has planned a rally, setting up this type of road block is not right. Even in1998, we did not face this type of road obstruction…Anyway, peaceful gatherings of the rakyat should not be banned. The police could monitor and keep  an eye on any demonstration, but if it is peaceful, it should be allowed. Under our constitution, freedom of gatherings and expression are to be allowed.

Needless to mention, I was late for work, as were thousands of people.

The power that be , the ones holding the power to decide all these, are they aware of the economic loss and the time wasted by ordinary citizens, who are the real boss of the country. Do they realise that, just like a man’s heart can be won through his stomach, citizens’ trust and support can only be won through winning their hearts and not by creating obstacles and making them angry. And this morning, I can literally see  fumes over many of the motorists’ heads…..

I am postings 2 photos from malaysiakini, you can judge for yourself, is this a road block or a road obstruction? Did you see the police checking any cars other then slowly down the traffic ?

    Dr Hsu,

Since I started to read the writing by Malaysian blogger, I realized that many people are upset with TDM for what he did in 1998. However to me and I am sure many Malaysian, what we remembered about 1998 is that life go on without much disruption, the anticipated chaos did not materialized. The economy was back to track quite speedily.

this kinda paranoia is really something that our country can ill-afford. of course the parties will cross-blame each other. but i’d say the ppl do feel like it’s the PR’s fault, given their likeness to taking things to the streets..then againt it’s because the police will NEVER issue them permit. this is precisely why 2 party system will never work in our country.

I was caught in a similar jam some months ago when they set up road blocks to the Parliament due to some petition to be submitted there. I was fuming mad! And I cursed the police and the govt.
Now I am cursing them again (although I was not caught in the direct jam, but there is a spillover in other parts of the Klang Valley causing unusual heavy traffic at most roads).
Do the PM and the police think that the country belongs to UMNO elites only? Have they forgotten the very reason they are in existence is manage the country for the rakyat? And there are millions of us here. I have always stopped short of calling the PM stupid. This is indeed a stupid action originating from a stupid leader!

    A guilty person behaves abnormal.
Similarly….a guilty government applies stupid precautions.
Tian Chua said…the government is suffering .. some sort of phobia.
Expect them to think of all the inconveniences and lost of valuable time by their stupid the motorists…is expecting too much from a government who does not know simple productivity management.

Same politicians, same frame of minds, same actions.

How long has it been? The time where humanity can take criticism by the chin and improve on it.

Ah well, to hell we go. Let’s just see the faint glimpse of Malaysia’s possible majesty before we turned 3rd world inhabitants….forever.

A third world country conducting a low standard police surveilance. Seem to me police is trying to find some easy works to do for a day, creating hardship to Malaysian motorists is nothing new, with such a poor n low standard police force in the country.Cheer!!!

It’s a despicable tactic by the police to direct hate and disgust against the Pakatan by setting up these useless road blocks. They could be looking out for buses but again, brainless authorities. Many could have traveled by cars. It’s time the Malaysian public put their foot down and tell this police off especially the Home minister that these tactics must stop.

It makes Malaysians hate the “kurang ajar” government more.

It has been the mentality of civil servants in malaysia for 50 years, doing nothing constructive but getting pay with their time. Not surprise at all in this third world country. The “big attitude” of all these public servants is not up to any Malaysian to criticise, they will tell you to go back China n India.

I think the Government/Police shall forget about taking any actions against Anwar because whatever action to be taken by the Police against him will be treated as political persecution or oppression. Let Anwar do anything he wants because he is above the law now. Malaysians are polarised by their voting trend on 8/3/08 election. Those who voted for PR will never believe or trust the government and view the sodomy case as political action. Those who voted for BN believe that Najib is totally not related to the Mongolian case. Good luck to all of you bias Malaysians who have lost your sense and objectivity. The ensuing economic turmoil will make all Malaysians suffer and all politicians and bloggers will be happy to have more things to write and talk. Keep talking, writing and demonstrating till we all sink together.God bless you.

Best is catch it…..tie to the string and give it to a kampong boy walk…swing…spin it ….until frog gets a frogy foaming mouth…..and shut up for a while.
Peace at last….no hearing him… croak nonsensical sounds.

    Hi Doc,

Does Sleepy read blogs? Maybe before our 12th GE, but certainly not now. We have permanently crippled his ego and he now needs a blow-torch just to shoo away mosquitoes.

We really don’t need to question his devious intentions. As long as those ends justify the means of staying in power, collateral damages and monetary losses requires no vindication.

Now, what pills would you recommend for Incompetence?

is it ok to bring down the government through civil disobedience such as nation-wide protests and demonstration and thereby creating chaos instead of through election? As I said,I love be a frog because Anwar encouraging wakil rakyat to jump;so I reflect the current political culture promoted by Anwar. Why is it ok to jump into PR but sinful to cross into BN? Don’t be double standard.Principles apply to both BN and PR,not just to BN only. Anyhow,I am going to watch Cartoon network now as there are better shows including frog-dancing.

Good Frog….go and watch cartoons and shut up!
In a way…it is good you admit you are a frog….a slimy little useless creature..only know how to make love…lay eggs and croak.
There is nothing good about a frog…except eating some mosquitoes..and that we do not need a frog to help.
One spray of ‘medicine’….kills more than a frog can consume in one year.
Yes…frog…….talk big….and support those that steals your money..but then…maybe frog have not one sen stolen by UMNO and BN….so frog…keep croaking cock and bull.
Need to stop here and save some for others to F…him good and proper.

My small company suffered losses of time and money.with a team of servicemen..unable to provide excellent service after sales to our valued customers…due to the KL road blocks.
Unproductive work..already cost me more than RM1k lost. What about the huge corporations and even smaller companies than mine…a one man show.
All the Min.Of Home Affairs can say is..he is sorry..yet it is dressed up with great hypocracies….to protect the KL. road block…instructed by Nazri.
This Nazri should inspire all to vote against UMNO.
Creating fear and painting Anwar is dangerous … and is a trouble causer…is what UMNO….is good at….with their well trained art and craft…..trained by non other than……..Mahatghir.
Can you imagine….one who want to rush to the hospital….got caught in the road block…and the patient may have died?
These ordinary Malaysians just suffer in silence…as no one will help them…if the shout it out. These are the majority millions…that will vote UMNO out!!
What kind of animals do we have..running the country?

Learn to dance like a frog, watching cartoon on tv is better than risking your life to walk! Bring down umno through walking is impossible unless it is sleep walking…couple with frog dancing.

Great! i have no idea peaceful rally n walking will cause civil disobedient……n topple a government.

    Jul 15, 2008 @ 14:34:13

Yes Jeff…..Only way to topple a government is by peaceful rallies and demonstrations.
Go study … all corrupted government topples in Philippines… Indonesia….and Thailand.
That was why….Mahathir was so afraid..told the student union go study…and not demonstrate…as he knew….it is these well educated students..that can expose his evil and corrupted deeds.
And majority university students are supporting Anwar.

  21. Dr Hsu
    Jul 15, 2008 @ 15:10:32

Look at the Philipines in the 80s. Peaceful rallies after the killing of Senator Benigno Aquino brought down the government of Marcos. His widw, Cory Aquino became the president.

That is why we have the UUCA and so on.

Monsterball is right in saying so. But people do not demonstrate against a good government. No good government has been toppled through this means….. If the government is truly a government of the people, by the people for the people, then it has nothing to be scared of any demons or rallies.

I tested many of you as to your level of tolerance to divergent views purposely provoked by me.Good to air your views but learn to respect different opinions. By the way, spend sometime to read The World on Fire by Amy Chua which is a helpful guide.

Frog…Different opinions are accepted…but not the opinions…to keep supporting a 52 year old government…refusing to change…to try out others.
Refusing to change..mean you are an active member of existing government…and have personal ulterior motives..not penning for the sake of a united Malaysia for Malaysians.
To accept your views…is to bring our standard to your low class level. Do you know…you are childish and low class?
There are so many millions of books to read….to gain knowledge.
Right now….I recommend you to read….”Kamasutra”…the 32 ways of making love….not war.
    After that…Dr. Dhammananda’s…”What Buddhists Believe”
Don’t try to be too smart.
You are a proven misguided wind kite…can change moods and directions…like a person….lost in the woods…..yet still clinging to false dreams…like one on Gerakan…and you..maybe MCA?

Doc, Marcos was brought down by US when the US decided that enough was enough and did not allow Marcos to use force. Whereas in the Tiananme Incident in1989,the US could not control the Chinese Government as to what to do.If US succeeded in the massive protest in Beijing, China would have ended up in the same fate as Soviet Union.
