Racist remarks and reactions from MCA

An UMNO division leader was reported to have allegedly uttered racist remarks during one of the ceramahs in Permatang Pauh buyby-election. He was supposed to have said that “Chinese were squatters in the country, and were both selfish and unjust”, according to a Malaysiakini report today.

I am commenting not because of what this fellow said. Over the years, how many UMNO leaders have uttered things like that? On many occasions,  even keris were raised . So this racial profiling is nothing new.

I am commenting because the response is so predictable and of course gives me a sense of Deja Vu. MCA youth is starting a signature campaign to ask that this division head be sacked, according to the report.

When I said Deja Vu, I mean that so many times in the past, members of the component parties have complained of racist remarks of UMNO leaders, but usually nothing much will come out of it.

Remember 2006 UMNO youth meeting? Someone uttered racists remarks and caused an uproar among the youth leaders of the component parties. In the end, nothing happened. All sandiwara.

A former minister, who is now eyeing the top position of MCA, is said to have described the relations between component parties and UMNO as that of Master and servant. If that is so, why still stick around? Why not  come out of the coalition and be own boss?

I hate to mention that this reaction from MCA youth will probably lead to nothing except perhaps increase political mileage for the few youth leaders that started this signature campaign , and maybe win them some votes in the coming party election.

What they should do is to pressure their own party leaders to take a stand. Say, UMNO must act against this fellow and others who utter racist remarks, otherwise MCA with its 15 MPs will cease to support this coalition. If MCA leadership dares to issue this threat,  UMNO might just want to take disciplinary action , or use sedition act against the errand division chief, because at the present moment, UMNO needs every single BN MP to be on its side. It is as simple as this.

The question is, the top brass of MCA, do they dare to issue such ultimatum?

Many things were ‘orchestrated’ in BN, very ‘superficial’ and very ‘co-incidental’.

Lets see this time whether things can be ‘true’, ‘real’ and ‘solid’.

Umno is the ALI, others in BN is BABA. That is why they still choose to remain in BN.

standard operating procedure goes like this’

have a close door meeting between UMNO and MCA Youth

kiss and make up in front of the media.

next day, headlines in MSM said its a misunderstanding and all are well and good again.

praise each other for tolerance and Barisan culture way of solving conflicts behind close door.

My imgination? No, just go to archives of mainstream media and you will ample similar cases.

To me, MCA and UMNO are the last parties I would want to associate with. The first, a proven gutless shoe polisher waiting for crumbs falling from the dining table and the latter, a corrupt to the core party at the elite level.

A signature campaign just to demand that action be taken against this racist Umno division leader who is not even a national leader speaks of how powerless the MCA is.

Signature campaigns are for demanding action for important issues that affect national interests, not to ask for discipline action against a minor leader who uttered racist, insensitive remarks!

Such action should be an administrative matter, not the subject of a signature campaign. The way MCA has to go about it shows how pathetic their relationship is with Umno.

Signature campaign? The main intention is to get back lost ground.

MCA & Gerakan intent to get back Chinese support (which they never got) while Umno is trying to get back Malay support by playing up racial sentiments.

Old tricks lah. We don’t think as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban or whatever. We regard ourselves as ‘Anak Malaysia’ or ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ or ‘True Malaysian’.

Just show us you got guts by pulling out of BN lah, BABA.

it is really sad that the head of a component party sometimes seem so helpless to even reprimand a middle ranking leaders of UMNO.

No wonder LKY (not Lee Kuan Yew) said the parties are like beggars, and CSL said that the relation is like master and servant.

Yes Justin, even Gerakan members are involved in this. Shows how powerless they are really.

I agree with Kenny Gan that signature campaign is not for this type of things. This thing should be brought to BN council and be thrashed out between the heads of all BN parties. The component heads should demand that if no action is taken, the parties leave BN. Just give an ultimatum and see how UMNO will react at this time. If they expel MCA and Gerakan, they will be short of 17 seats. So in the reality of politics, they would have to discipline the division head and that wpould serve as a deterent for others .

Look at SAPP. They openly declare that they do not support Pak Lah, and yet, BN did not take action against them. It is because of this number game.

So Gerakan and MCA leaders, please stand up to UMNO for all the racist campaigning. NOw is the time to demand something is done to the racist remarks used in the ‘buy’election.

I’m very annoyed with Ketua UMNO Bahagian Bukit Bendera, Datuk Ahmad Ismail, who was not showing a proper sense of responsibility by making an unaccepted statement “Chinese is only a guest in Malaysia” (Cina Menumpang di Malaysia). I’m of the view that Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO should take an immediate disciplinary action against him, or even expel him to leave BN immediately. He is very much expected to give the Chinese community an apology, immediately.

In the spirit of the BN, any component party leader or member is not allowed to split the unity of BN component parties with inflammatory statements, which would also affect national peacefulness and undermine racial harmony.

Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country, any political party or ethnic should take no incitement to evoke any racial inflammatory remarks. I will not tolerate with any politicians in Malaysia, playing with “racial politics”

I do hope that Datuk Ahmad Ismail not taking any advantage of any party during any election, by making unnecessary statement proceeding in a gradual, subtle way but with harmful effects on racial harmony, which is however seen to increase his visibility and popularity.

When have we ever honestly say….to ourselves…Malaysian political people in UMNO and BN are there to serve the people with principles in life?
Just take these 30 years….point out one politician from MCA or Gerakan that dare to stand up against UMNO’s many wrong bias decisions against other races.
At least..in UMNO…Musa Hitam resigned…and kept his words….no more politics.
I keep hearing there are so many good people in Gerakan and MCA.
    BALDERDASH!!
If so good…why stick to a racialist party and keep disuniting us?
Ah yes….the answer is…there are there to try change the crooks, I can also conclude…they are there……waiting for their chance to make millions!!
    Less than that..no deal.
So out-siders can have other conclusions..and we are no fools!
Gerakan and MCA leaders…are not helpless. They are simply selfish and have no balls to do the right things….as they are all guilty of corruptions …one way or another…..especially Koh Tsu Khoon…must stick to UMNO for protection.
Old fox….Lim Kheng Yiak…very smart. ..pass the dying chicken to Koh…years ahead.
So is that most corrupted low down worm of all..LLS aka rotten fish head of MCA…selling Chinese rights and status away to UMNO…carrying Mahathir’s balls…..to make sure he hand his family are worth hundreds of millions.
Again….why Gerakan join in to support race and religion politics?
These are the selfish Malaysian Chinese..calculative and cunning.
Do we still want to depend on people like Khoo Kay Peng…to make fast good move…to resign?
No Sir!!. He is waiting and weighing the pros and cons for his own selfish reasons….not for Malaysians.
I choose him as an example..because he is so smart….sure can contribute good to Malaysian.. by joining opposition now….but he is not doing it….why?
Only hope for politicians to serve the people….are now seen at People’s Party…..headed by Anwar.
Powerful UMNO is reduced to nothing at Permatang Pauh.
    Who are MCA and Gerakan?
To all their sensible members with dignity……RESIGN NOW!!!…and forget those parties…by not forgetting what they have supported..race and religion dirty politics.
What more reasons do you need to resign…God telling you to do so??

Ling Liong Sik and Lim Kheng Yiak…resign and shout..we are with Anwar!!
I think Anwar may need more pain killing injections.. .laughing non stop.
Ong Ka Ting..you say….why he is just a puppet on the string for Ling. He wants to join Anwar?
Even sex man will find difficulties to get membership in.
The only MCA man I can think of…most welcome to join Anwar..is Lim Ah Lek.
    Who else??
So you see…..those guys who love to play dirty politics…must stick to MCA or dead party…Gerakan…as their days are numbered.
UMNO have only 35% Malay support now..and going down.
Tell me how many Malaysian Chinese support MCA and Gerakan?
This is also the litmus test for Malaysian Chinese to wake up and support change of government.

    Dr Hsu,

It has come to the stage that there is no need to protest or shout anymore….because “everything” has been done. Protest, shouting, negotiating, bargaining, rallies…etc, you name it, it had been done in the past, just as you have said here in your blog. Racists, extremists and narrow minded bigots also had their say (for whatever reasons).

Having said this, it’s really time for component BN parties to abandon the “master” (UMNO) just as housemaids are running away from their employers.

But, here you find, MCA youth (only Wilayah KL) mind you, not the whole youth movement is making some noise. What about the Ong brothers? OKT may or probably think that the UMNO division is a small mosquito and did not require such a big man like him to react. His brother, OKC probably did not want to antagonize his master and it seemed (according to an insider) initially he didn’t quite approve of the signatory campaign or whatever.

So you see, the “insult” against the Chinese after 51 years of so-called independence is on-going. Why? Is the master party condoning such views and protecting such racist leaders within?

History of the “pendatang” issue and “pre-bumi” hoo-haa….never really taught the master circle any lessons. In fact, generations have been taught by certain quarters that they are more superior than other races. So what is the use of the “national service?” On one hand they brandied about national unity and on the darker side, keeping both eyes close on racist remarks.

Worse, they take “selective” actions against people like RPK or other bloggers on alleged sedition but hardly their own kind.

All said and done, components must have the “moral courage” to leave an immoral and cowardice master.

I wish to re-post what I commented in veonszu,

    VoiceOfPolitic,

I also personally hope that 916 will happen. But, realitically, this is tough to become a reality.

If I can read Anwar’s mind correctly, 916 is just Anwar’s trick to test out BN’s MPs sincerity in wanting for a better Malaysia under multiracial ideology of PR. I used the word ’sincerity’ because Anwar clearly stated ‘no monetary’ perk will be offerred for these MPs.

So, if 916 happen, then rakyat will know that these MPs are of credible, with conscience.

If 916 not happen, then Anwar & PR have nothing to loose because they rather have MPs conscience rather than the ones only have ‘material’ perks in their minds. In a way, rakyat will also not loose out.

For sure, either way, Umno and BN will walk into history if they still stick to their ‘outdated’ mentality in next GE.

A True Malaysian, firstly if according to democratic principles, it is not right to entice MPs chosen on the tickets of BN to cross over to Pakatan.

However, i have always put people’s interest first over that of parties and self. If the policies of the present goverment ARE so rotten as to make people suffer, and it is in the interest of the people to have a change as soon as possible, then perhaps there is a case for asking MPs to cross over willingly. Willingly means that they have to convince themselves that theya re doing the right things for the people and not just crossing due to money politics or promise of positions. If the latter is the case, there will be no end in jumping over as the other side can also usemoney and positions to get these people to jump back again.

So if it is in the interest of the public, and the MPs make the move willingly, then there should not be any objections for crossing over.

Having said that, we must look whether he can get 30 MPs to cross over. The difficulty will be in the first 10 or so. Once there is a momentum, people tend to be influenced by peer pressure, especially during this time when PP byelection shows that more people are against the BN’s brand of race politics.

the first 10 or so will have to come from Sabah, the rest will have to come from UMNO and other component parties. But to achieve this in another 16 days time may not be possible. May be at a later date.

But of course, in politics, anything can happen. Politics is the Art of the possibles. Who would HAVE thOUGHT Anwar would come back so strongly 10 years ago? Not even the Great Dictator.

PM will not take any action since the UMNO GA is near. His survival depends on that. He will be the nice guy as always. Have we seen him reprimanded anyone within UMNO? NO!!!

DAP has made polis reports. They are of no use. Polis will not call this guy up for questioning. The Polis report will go the dustbin. Have we seen any Polis reported on UMNO being acted upon? None!!!. However, if DAP steps out of line, Polis will act even without a report.

MCA/Gerakan can make all the noise they want. No result. Do we still remember when MCA/Gerakan presented a referendum to PM, they were asked to withdraw and apologise to him. What a shame!!!
All these while MCA/Gerakan knows that they are servant to UMNO, don’t understand why they still stick together. Did they really achieve anything for the Chinese to be proud of? They have to beg UMNO to give the pittance to the Chinese. As long as MCA/Gerakan don’t move out from BN, no Chinese with sane mind will vote for them. All the rakyat knows that the top brass of MCA/Gerakan are there for self interest and to enrich themselves.
So how can we knock some sense in MCA/Gerakan to ask them to move out of BN so that Malaysia can participate in racial free politics. Let’s UMNO continue with its current arrogance and see how far they can go.

Bigger picture is that if MCA/Gerakan don’t act fast, we will never see a better Malaysia for all of us

One more thing. It is actually DPM’s fault. He was there when these racial words were said and yet he didn’t stand up and reprimanded up. It is as good that UMNO endorsed the racial statement and not as a personal comment as mentioned by one of UMNO senior member lately.

PM & DPM have no ba**s to reprimand their members as it can be seen that they keep quiet during the GA incidents for the past years.

Have we seen a country which proper through race based policies? None. Yet UMNO is so arrogant and do what they like!!!

Let’s kick them out once and for all to save Malaysia!!!!
