Eli wong should not resign

Malaysiakini reported that ELizabeth Wong will resign as the State Assemblywoman for Bukit Lanjan.

I feel that there is really no necessity for her to resign. Nevertheless, I think she is under tremendous stress from this episode, and perhaps, she wanted to resign to save her party from being attacked.

It is really sad if she has to leave this way.  I hope she can be persuaded to change her mind if what is reported is true. I am sure her constituents in Bukit Lanjan,( consisting of Bandar Utama, the area around the Curve and the surrounding areas)  will be in full support of her if she chooses not to resign.

    Dr

Though if YB Wong had not done anything wrong, and only a victim, i believe she shouldn’t resign.

On the other hand, if she want to resign, we should accept her decision.

Might just be good for Pakatan, as we are all well verse in Barisan’s skill, in punching below the belt.

She is thinking of her voters…and party.
She was very happy…blogging along….doing her part as a social worker.
Yes….she resigned to respect her voters..and supporters and party.
Those in UMNO…go to jail..come out …decorated as Tan Sri.
I think ….if she is being persuaded by PR leaders…she will stay.
Lets not forget the culprit. I sincerely hope…be caught and put to jail…..whoever he/she is.

My sympathy to you, Ms.Wong. Be brave and continue your stuggle from the outside of the State Assembly. You will be fondly remembered for putting you party beyond self.

Let the constituents decide and if your party wins again, it proves that you still command their respect and support eventhough you might not represent them in Bukit Lanjau.

Next, I propose that the new candidate replacing Ms.Wong to be selected will be based on abilities and integrity and not on race. I strongly believe the voters are mature now and this will be a good opportunity to prove abilities, integrity and loyalty transcends racial divide.

This is Gerakan’s way of destabilising the Penang State Govt.

While I agree with you, Dr. Hsu, that Eli should not resign but we have to face the real ugly and dirty politics perpetuated mainly by you know who.

These evil force will not stop at anything to see the downfall of those who dare challenge them. Everyone is talking about the change expected of them since march 08 and this is the change they are talking about, to kill off all strong oppositions.

Eli may be strong but to stay on may wreck her in total because the evil force will make sure that she will be humiliated to the tilt.

It is our hope to see that the voters of Bukit Lanjan will send a very strong signal to this evil force that they do not like such dirty politics being played.

The whole thing is orchestrated by BN newspapers to make Liz Wong resign. I’ve seen the so-called nude photos and they are nothing. One is a close-up of her sleeping face. Another 2 are very grainy blurred photos of her sleeping fully clothed, and the photographer was trying to shoot up her skirt. Of course in the dark nothing can be seen.

If she resigns for these photos it will be the most unnecessary resignation in the world. The whole sordid affair has been blown up by Malay Mail (which never published the photos) for political reasons. This paper also called her to say they have nude photos of her which is not true.

If anybody knows Liz Wong, please call her and assure her it’s not necessary for her to resign. She’s a victim of political machinations.

There is a dearth of good politicians in this country. We must not lose them at any cost. There is an evil design to turn our nation to be under corrupt rule. Voters must rally to protest at every available platforms to snub any attempts to destroy the credibility of good public servants like Elizabeth. Since her conscience is clear she should not weaken to mounting opposition pressure. As a Christian myself I urge her to trust that God will stay her in this trying moments. I agree with you that Eli should stay put but having said that, I also agree with Eli that she was force into a corner and have to concede.

With her action, I think Eli is a person of integrity, pride and dignity. And as far as YB ELi is concern, a lot of MPs and ADUNs should learn a lesson or two from her.

If ever she were to make a comeback, my vote will be for her as a a true “WAKIL RAKYAT”, unlike those taking cheap shots at her from BN/UMNO. This goes to show the divide in the mentality level of certain politicians.

That is why I insist on the important of morality as the basic to all, but let start with ourselves and family first, but someone still says “put moral aside”.

My stand is that if someone did immoral thing to us, it must not be the reason we did the same to this someone. If we in fact did the same, we are immoral ourselves.

“perception that we cannot trust anyone or any institution nowadays” is very real, but still it should not be the excuse why we should stop fighting to erase such perception.

Cilipadi, this is why Confucius once “joked”, before a person becomes a leader, he or she must be morally upright, must fulfill his/her obligations toward the family, BEFORE taking active role to help the community, and THEN only play a bigger role FOR the Nation. Simple saying, really. It all starts from ONESELF before expanding responsibility to Nation.

The key word is moral role. But again, in politics, its dynamics being “poly-ticks” a “nice” person cannot survive. When dirty filter tactics are attacking the person, the victim being moral cannot survive.

So the argument goes, “moral” people surrounded by dirty politics cannot be effective. It should be a “tooth for a tooth” philosophy and I am sure any dentist with a name of Toyo will understand that.

Confucius sometimes confused people too including himself. We have all the rhetoric and laws in place except the system is rotten and run by rotten people. Incorruptible politicians think that divine “intelligence” is either stupid or don’t exist.

Cilipadi, I have said before, the year is young. I have said there will be many by-elections. I have said divine tribulations will take place as early as May. Sit back and relax….and watch. The animal farm politics movie has just begun.

    monk,

I fully understood what you meant. Morality is something very hard for everyone to agree at one point or another simply because of different expectation, i.e. everyone has his or her own moral standards. One example is one may regards himself as moral person even if he has more than one wife or keep mistresses but to other, he is an immoral one.

That is part of the reason why we have man made rules and laws to keep everyone toes the line, even that, rules and laws got loopholes and subject to interpretation to suit one’s interest.

Politician being politician, they want to play on ground of rules and laws as well as morality, like in the case of Eli. Toyol knows Eli does not break any rule so he plays morality. That shows the ugly face of politics.

On the other hand, Karpal Singh plays by rule and law. He never raises anything on morality ground. That makes him appears as a moral person. Much more respectable than Toyol.

In all fairness, politicians should chose whether to play by ‘morality’ or ‘rules and laws’ but not both. Play both will make the politician dirty and immoral like Toyol.

Still, to common people like me, morality is the yardstick to measure a politician, no less, no more.

Morality should take precedent over legality, divine tribulations will take place, that is for sure.

    monk,

I am just a simple one. To sum up on the topic of morality, come to think of this, if every one of us irrespective of race and religion can observe the 5 precepts as taught by the Great Gautama Buddha, namely :-

    1)Refrain from killing
    2)Refrain from stealing
    3)Refrain from sexual misconduct
    4)Refrain from telling lies
    5)Refrain from taking intoxicating things

(as what listed by Justin Choo in his ‘Life Is Like That’ blog, thanks Justin Choo for his great blog),

Perak fiasco, Eli Wong case, Altantuya, Hindraf, CSL, just to name a few, would not have happened in your Bolehland.

We do not need to be identified as Buddhist to live with this “simple concepts”, don’t we? What is the use of seeking forgiveness from God only after committing a sin? God could not save you but yourselves. By the way, don’t take for granted God is powerful, merciful, always forgiving and compassionate if one does not even observe morality.

Forget about this 5 precepts, just observe morality is good enough.
