Still another party fight looming

(Over one year ago,  in January 2008, I worte ” Is another party fight looming?” after the sex DVD of a MCA minister emerged- thus the title of this post)

CSL has been called in to help in an investigation regarding the sex DVDs that forced his resignation more than a year ago.

This signals the beginning of another party fight in the recorded history of MCA’s famed Book of infighting.

How many times they had fought, I have lost count.

When I was barely a kid, Dr Lim Chong Eu fought with Tan Siew SIn and lost. Lim left the party. But that fight was about principles , about demanding Tunku to give a third of the seats to MCA in the 1959 GE so that it could act as a check and balance for any Constitutional Amendments. Dr Lim subsequently formed the UDP, the Penang party which was to form the backbone of {arti Gerakan in 1968.

Then after Tun Tan Siew Sin retired and Lee San Choon took over, there was a vicious fight between Lee and Michael Chen, with the latter gaining much of the support from the Chinese community with his eloquent phrase that he would  ” rather die standing than live kneeling “. Unfortunately, the MCA grassroots voted him out and Michael Chen subsequently brought his army of supporters to Gerakan and almost became the Gerakan president when he challenged Lim KY and lost. He then hopped back to MCA and rose to become Senate president.

Then in the early eighties, we had the mother of all fights between Tan Koon Suan and Dr Neo Yee Pan. This fight is well known and resulting in an UMNO deputy leader acting as mediator. In the end , both Tan and Nee faded away, with Tan the winner being sent to jail over a case of CBT.  Like in the Chinese folklore, when a clamp is fighting with a crane, the ultimate winner is the fisherman, and this fisherman is none other than the famed Fish Head Ling LS who became the party president almost without having to lift a finger.

LLS ruled with an iron grip even though he was almost challenged by Lee the Golden Lion in the early 90s.  I said almost , because the golden lion chickened out last minute and all those who supported him were all sent to political guillotines……..Political blood from his comrades was shed for nothing

LLS  the Fish Head ruled till he was almost challenged by his deputy from Pahang, LimAL. The party fractured into Team A and Team B, with Team A leaders not talking to Team B leaders and so on…. Until Both LLS and LimAL came to an agreement to retire together and let OKTing and CKC took over.

OKTing was almost challenged by CSL, who was then very popular with gressroots and was chairman of the biggest state.  Unfortunately for Chua, a DVD of his great “act’ surfaced and he was put out of the equation.

Then came the tsunami of 308, and this party suffered the biggest loss in its history. OKTing knew that he had no more chance so he did not contest hoping that he could pass the baton to his brother  whom the party members decided to reject.

OTKeat became the president after another fight, this time a tame affairs, taming another Chua (CCM) from Johore.

SO we all think that this will be the time for the party to unite and reform after the painful lesson of 308.. Not to be.. The old habit dies hard. Nevermind the party won’t endear itself to the rakyat with all thes infightings; as long as they can fight to determine who should sit on the throne, they must fight.

That is why we have this news that CSL is being called to the police station just when Chua is trying to call for a EGM to do OTKeat in.

There is really nothing new about this, since we are so used to see this sort of fighting.

The show has just started…….Even when the whole country is facing big problems and the people are feeling the pinch from the economic slowdown.

But who cares!!! And this is not going to be the last time this party faces an internal fight.

Perhaps, if they believe in Chinese Feng Shui, they should get some good Feng shui masters to check on the feng shui of their headquarters as well as that of the  graves of its founders.

“But who cares!!! ” – Dr Hsu.

That’s a gentle way of putting it.

What appears in many others’ mind would be, “Go to hell!!!”

This is just an accursed party, a permanent menace to others within the community itself. A sorry lapdog of umno that also functions like a Triad.

Thanks for taking me through the history of MCA battles, Dr. Hsu.

Let them fight and disintegrate. Self-destruct. If they are so ignorant to realize that this in-fighting will weaken the party and ultimately the people who support them will suffer.

Dr. Hsu Thanks for the recap of MCA history. I had never bother about politics until now. But the MCA fight is an enjoyable reality show. Let us watch it as it unfold.

    My take on the situation.

    1. LLS is master strategist. So I am not surprised if he has a hand. I think he has ambition for his son. But I have yet to detect his hand. Can you tell me how to see this? He is Cao Cao.

    2. I wonder why the police has never come to charge CSL. I checked the penal code and CSL is guilty as hell. He admitted to the tape. That is good enough to convict him. Any lawyer out there – can confirm?

Anyway, CSL is a bit rash.

    3. OTK may not be a good enough strategist, like Liu Bei . But he has a Zhuge Liang behind him. (this i know for sure).

I love the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. This MCA fight is just like an episode of the story.

Look at the fun side of the picture ::)

Doesn’t MCA realize it is losing its members to PKR? I’ve met so many ex-MCA members in PKR functions, some of whom have been MCA members for 20-30 years.

PKR offers them hope while MCA offers nothing except the same old master-servant relationship with Umno.

Thank you indeed for “101 MCA History”. Just great. Klm asks why the police never charge CSL. My take is: the sex movie took place between 2 consenting adults, both non-muslims and there was no victim here as both parties enjoyed their illicit affair. I can’t see any laws being broken here. As for moral issues, the good tai-tai already forgiven him, so no more issue lah. MCA has proven itself true to its calling: “Malaysian Chinese Anjing”, a loyal corrupt lap-dog for UMNO to do all its dirty bidding.

I checked the penal code. CSL is guilty of unnatural sex. The is a section in there. It is quite clear It does not matter whether it is consenting or not. Singapore had the same code but was changed last year. Malaysia did not change. The penal code apply to non-muslim.

OIC, at least I understand better a bit of MCA history.

My feel here is that no one respect these MCA leaders. Why?

But who cares, let them fight like dogs. After all, they are just tools of Umno. Umno also do not put a damn on them, why should someone like me?

Maybe the happiest people around are those from Gerakan. MCA is their love-hate BN comrades, an obstacle in Penang politics.

Nevertheless, if I am CSL, I will just resign, maybe his supporters will follow him along. But, PR would not dare to take them, after learning their lesson in Perak fiasco.

One thing for sure, these MCA and Gerakan politicians are fighting for themselves, not for the interest of the people.

I thought OTK is different from others, but turn out the same. Sigh!!! Who cares?

Just enjoy watching. A movie not even fit for the Oscar nomination, but nvm, since it is a free show.

    Dr Hsu,

I don’t think it has anything to do with the feng shui of their founders’ graves, I think. I say this because my granduncle was one of the founding members. (said tongue in cheek :-))

I think it has more to do with greed of power and money. Remember they were once known as a ‘towkay’ party.

Much as they try to rebrand themselves, the people they attract are all towkays wannabe!

Definitely nothing about the rakyat when the very race they are supposed to represent faces discrimination and rather than fight this discrimination, they choose to fight themselves for power and money.

I say let them blow themselves to bits and the same to MIC too.

Which brings me to Gerakan. If it is not money that your leaders are after nor steadfastness to principles and ideology then what does it stand for?

Sorry doc, no need to answer, just a rhetorical question.

Dr Hsu, to be honest with you, I don’t like Gerakan and deplores it’s open self-servingness of its leadership. LKY established that fact time and time again. KTK also wrote that selfishness cum impotence time and time again. I can’t understand why you have to be linked to Gerakan. It’s another good for nothing BN component.

In the pre independent days the MCA was indeed called a ‘ towkay ‘ association as they were the hard working ones with many businesses. Banking licence was one of them and MCA then was not really interested in the power of politics.
They paid a very high price for not being the party that stood their ground for the chinese during the independent day when the top leaders failed to play the role of check and balance on umno. Probably at that time the MCA guys were thinking,….. as long as MCA stand for Money Comes Again, being the typical towkays, why worry lah !

They didn’t think that one day not only will they lost their banking licence, also their rights and political power will also be check-mate !!! Imagine a small fly from a small umno branch can tell the MCA president to fly kite if he don’t like what he hears at the youths assembly. Or even the ex-Gerakan President (LKY) moaning over the fact that bn component parties are like ‘ professional beggars ‘ when it comes to asking or bargaining with umno on allocation of funds etc.

In this new era, we need a true multi-racial party that cares for the rakyats first and foremost and will stand make a stand that it is an offence for anyone uttering racist remarks. Race should not be the core issue but good governance with people’s welfare being their top priority. Impartial judiciary is the most important factor where justice for all is without compromise. Let us dream for such a day and we need to prepare ourselves to usher in such a change for our children sake.

On CSL oral sex. See penal code 377a below.

377A. Any person who has sexual connection with another person by the introduction of the penis into the anus or mouth of the other person is said to commit carnal intercourse against the order of
    nature.

    – may arrest without warrant
    – imprisonment for twenty years and whipping

This is a code adopted from British law. And it is of christian heritage.

So I dont know why the police is handling him so gingerly.

And so it continues. More of the same self interest and axe grinding. MCA, like Umno and MIC, will not change because it cannot afford to. Too much vested interest at stake. Why should the incumbents give up their slice of the gravy train for ideals or principles? The winner takes his share, the loser is sidelined; ultimately cast into oblivion. That has been the way for decades for MCA until their leaders have now lost touch with a new generation that wants racial politics buried. I will not weep over MCA’s demise, it has outlived its usefulness.

This shows that Dr. Lim Chong Eu has a ‘special place’ in your heart……and I see this as the crucial factor why you still want to hang around Gerakan despite the fact that Gerakan is not relevant anymore in Malaysian politics, especially in BN.

Am I right in my assessment?

I find inconsistency here that on one hand, LCE left MCA because of ‘principles’ and yet he led Gerakan to join BN after winning Penang. How is this reconciles with his ‘principles’ of to be ‘check and balance’ Umno by joining BN at that crucial time?

    Care to explain, Dr. Hsu?

    cilipadi,
I have written many comments on this issue. You can view it under the category “Gerakan”.

I think it may be a subconscious thing. He was the idol when we were young.

As for why he took Gerakan to BN, I too had explained many times. It could have been a wrong move, but at that time and under the circumstances, he might have though he acted correctly, especially when there was so much of bloodshed in May 13.

Just like many people blamed Reagan and ALan Greenspan for this financial crisis because of the deregulations put in place in the 80s . But at that time it was the correct policies and it had resulted in almost 2 decades of continuous growth. It is up to the people in following decades to fine tune and adjust the policies and tailor it to the circumstances of the time and not following blindly what Reagan did 20 years ago.

It is up to the Gerakan leaders after LCEu to decide and review constantly whether to stick to bN or out… My view is it should be out…

You can see the law is perfectly clear. No ambiguity there. I have not seen the DVD. But I assume one deduce from it the oral sex action. And CSL had already confirmed that it was him. Open and shut case.

I think OTK is pushing the police. But the police is still hesitant. I agree you on the selective prosecution.

Or maybe UMNO is using CSL to check OTK. Since they can unleash the dog if he does not do what is asked. He is the secret weapon to keep MCA in check.

    Dr. Hsu,

Thanks for your explanation. I just try my luck here to test water whether I will be the one to strike your mind to resign from Gerakan earlier than your 1 year deadline. You must be aware many commentators here want yourself to be out of Gerakan.

Your stand that Gerakan should be out is clear to all of us. My take is that Gerakan will not pull out from BN simply because they cannot stand up on their own. They have no backbone.

Well, it seems no one can influence you to resign earlier…..its ok to me. But I would still think that your views will be sought after by Gerakan members if you voice from outside as ex-Gerakan.

One more thing, about this ‘idol’ thing, it is just normal for one to defend their idols even their idols did wrong. Perhaps because of this ‘idol mentality’ that they still harbor hope on their party and Umno leaders to change, yet their concious minds tell them change is impossible, and still choose to hang on within BN.

‘idol mentality’ can be very dangerous politically. Hahaha

“Direct Elections Of MCA President, State Chairmen In 2 Years” This article also talked of cleaning up MCA membership. It believe MCA members number may drop from 1M to 500K.

There are many names in the list of members – of people of people already dead or left the party. I guess they must be MCA divisions in hell to cater for dead people. And I guess many new PKR or DAP members are also MCA members (by virtue of their names in the membership list)

    Kim,

You are right. One of the reasons some warlords are ganging up with CSL is because of the proposed direct elections which will put them out of the political scene and more, business deals through cronyism.

Second, CSL is also putting up a strong fight against OTK cos he wants to be president and of course, a chair in Cabinet….well once in government, business goes on as usual. That’s probably these types of reforms he wanted.

Third, he truly believed that he was “politically killed” blaming political reasons which exposed him to his extra marital affairs.

The reasoning is simple. Adultery is not discovered is OK, moral. What he does is private and none of the public business. Nobody is perfect. See the illogical “logic” he truly believes in.

To him, integrity is what the public “does not” discover. But in truth, the true definition of “integrity” is doing the right things even if you are alone and no body watching…that’s the real definition….check Wikipedia for the answer, if you don’t believe me.

So, CSL thinks it’s time to overthrow the Gestapo (OTK), so his supporters said.

But these immature CSL’s supporters (brainless warlords) forgot about the public Malaysians who are already sick and tired of their power competition. The public wants MCA to solve and help them, the economy, unemployment…etc.

The question begging for a answer, why CSL did not contest the president in the first place? Was it “kiasu”? He didn’t think he could win against OTK and Jimmy Chua. So like a vulture, he waited and waited for everything, an important party post (which he didn’t get) and a cabinet post (which he will never get as long as OTK is president.

    Hence, the battle looms…..ahead…..

I may not like OTK. He is an arrogant sun of a gun. At least, he try to clean up MCA. He cannot be a nice guy to rid MCA of CSL and his cohort of warlords. For too long MCA have been a party of towkays, gangsters and Ah longs. MCA created the misery called Ah Long. Decent people is a minority in this party.

On a side note. Japanese economy is badly affected by Japanese yakusa. Asiaweek ( now defunct) published a report some years ago on how deep the Japanese underworld penetrated the economy. It seemed the Japanese underworld recruited talented people and send them to MBA schools in the United States. Japanes banks make loans to these guys, which are not paid back. Written off.

There had been concerned in Malaysia of similar problem and the penetration of the Malaysian gangsters in Malaysian economy and political parties.

In conclusion, we have a serious but invisible and unacknowledged problem on top of all other problems. When we wake up one fine day, we are all working for the AH Longs.😦

    Dr Hsu

First time in your blog and have read your piece . There are some factual errors there like OTKeat became the president after another fight, this time a tame affairs, taming another Chua (CCM) from Johore . The errors are it should be CJM not CCM and it was not a tame affair as you put it . Jimmy Chua managed a creditable 40% of the votes , getting support from over 800 delegates . If the debate had been allowed he could have pulled more votes . Two factors stood in his way ie the pulling off by Donald Lim to contest against CSL resulted in a loss of over 200 votes . Donald was originally in the team consisting of the two Chuas and the other factor was the stab from behind from CSL’s supporters from Johore who did not vote for Chua Jui Meng and instead voted for OTK . This leaked out from the plotters themselves and confirmed to be true .

As what Disgusted said The question begging for a answer, why CSL did not contest the president in the first place? Was it “kiasu”? He didn’t think he could win against OTK and Jimmy Chua. So like a vulture, he waited and waited for everything, an important party post .

Yes that is very correct , he knew he could not win against OTK and CJM and he was quite confident in the no2 slot , he knew he could win . What we gather is that he thought at that time he could put OTK inside his pocket but not Jimmy Chua , so the possibility of him telling his supporters to vote for OTK could NOT be rule out .I guess he found it out the hard way that OTK is no push over .

Then the soon-to-be-PM-we-never-voted Najis announce no more Labu Airport.

You tell me, what does it says about MCA being UMNO’s lapdog ??

Sad to say when people comment on certain issues they have never bothered to find out the details .

1)OTK , being the Transport Minister has no power to approve the Labu LCCT project . All details were discussed in Cabinet and approved by Cabinet and OTK has to announce it since he is the Minister in charge .

    2) Labu was never a govt / Federal project aand as such no govt monies was involved . I was a private project between Air Asia and Sime Darby .
The disapproval came because there was no need to have another LCCT in Labu which was not far from Sepang . Already we have Subang which is under utilised and we have the LCCT and KLIA . KLIA is to my understanding also not fully utilised as it was built for a certain number of passengers per year , and it has not yet breach that number . So why the need to built another ? If there’s a need , it should have been built in Penang not Labu by Air Asia for the Northern Region .

So what can you gleaned from the person who says “what does it says about MCA being UMNO’s lapdog ??” brain under utilised .

Maybe I like to give my views on this
“That is why we have this news that CSL is being called to the police station just when Chua is trying to call for a EGM to do OTKeat in.”
    ===

First and foremost ‘ When he quit as Minister, MP, and all party posts last year he did so on his OWN accord as he felt he had to step down , just like Eli . No one asked him to step down as he felt his position was untenable with that scandal, NO ONE , Not Ong Tee Keat . We believe the person involved is from Johore and OTK is not from Johore . He has no reasons to do him in as during that time it was not clear what position OTK was going for . This is a fact as he changed his mind from Dep. President to President when OKT announced he was not defending his position of the President

He was re elected for Dep President , but that does not mean that the Party President has to appoint him a senator and therein a MINISTER , which is what he wanted and which is the PREROGATIVE of the President .Yes you can still serve and contribute to the Chinese community and to the party as the Deputy and not necessarily as a Minister .

Coming back to the police thing ,
Lets start from the time the issue cropped up sometime in Dec 2007 . Police reports were made by him against the plotters.
When was he punished the first time ? Was there any report made specifically against him ? There was no report made against him as far as I know unless some of you are in possession of a police report lodged against him . What I know is that there were reports lodged on the distribution of pornographic DVD featuring him as the main porno actor but NOT against him on his acting . His report was for the police to investigate who was the producer of the DVD , the cameramen and the distributor of the the DVDs . The recently concluded report attested to this when it was mentioned in Parliament that the police could not find the culprits responsible for it as it happened two years ago . Even the forensics were not able to identify the culprits . So these are entirely different ie producing , videotaping and distribution as against the person performing the act ie the actor and the actress.
The latest report is against the actor and the actress . . It is now public knowledge that he was hauled up for investigation for allegedly engaging in oral sex – a criminal offence punishable under Section 377 of the Penal Code.

It is said: ‘Ability will enable a man to get to the top, but character is the only thing that keeps him from falling off’

It is established that public figures do not, and indeed, cannot live by the same set of rules as everyone else. Behaviour that is acceptable in an ordinary private citizen may not be so for one aspiring to hold high office , one who is supposed to set an example of dignity, integrity and decorum ..
He is now an unacceptable role model for Malaysians young and old, both liberal and conservative from all backgrounds.
To right-thinking Malaysians, he is unfit for political leadership both in MCA and BN. He is unfit to hold public office, be it as a senator or for a ministerial post as he will be a liability to the govt .

With the MCA bent on moral uprightness, Soi Lek’s hopes are indeed dim or there are none at all. With his tainted character, the holding of a public office is untenable.
He may have been accepted by the party’s central delegates, but the delegates do not speak for all Malaysians. A recent financial daily highlighted that ‘when you hold public office you have to measure yourself against a high moral standard’.
There is also a vast difference between acceptance by the party and acceptance by the public at large. Soi Lek was elected by the MCA central delegates. It is an election in a private organisation. When it comes to a public office, the majority of the people outside would have the final say.

Further, he had resigned as a member of Parliament and the federal constitution bars him from contesting for five years. Appointing him as a senator may be an abuse of power and an abuse of due process to circumvent the provisions of the federal constitution.
Soi Lek’s self-fulfilling prophecy of an EGM drive is merely a red herring aimed at overshadowing the bad press publicity of his sexual scandal.
Right-thinking MCA members, delegates, and the public at large must not fall for Soi Lek’s selfish personal agenda and greed for power and position. Politicians should remember ‘that which is morally wrong cannot be politically right’.
