press statements on Perak

Updated

This is my statement in English and Chinese sent out at around 3.30pm this afternoon. Afternoon is the wrong time to send out statements, but since I was very busy in the morning, and I have no PAs to help me ( I am just a social political worker and not a politician), I have no choice but to send out late the statements which I wrote around 2pm.

(Despite the late hours that i sent out this statement, Malaysiakini has published excerpts of it in both its CHinese and English editions..the links are here: English & CHinese . It has also been reported in Malaysian Insider, click here)

Press Release

by Dr Hsu Dar Ren , Central Committee member of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia.

1. As a Central Committee member of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, I strongly urge the Barisan Nasional as well as the Pakatan leadership to come together for an  understanding to jointly seek the permission of the ruler to dissolve the Perak State Assembly and seek a fresh State Election, which in my view is the only sensible solution to the problem.

2. Enough farce has been played and enough damage has been done to the nation. In the interest of the people of Perak in specific and Malaysia in general, it is no longer a matter of who is right and who is wrong. The decision of who should form the rightful government should no longer be decided in courts , but rather it should be decided by the people of Perak themselves, going by the very basic principle of democracy.

3. I humbly appeal to both sides to go back to democratic principles and let common sense prevail rather than trying to hold on to power and lose the support of the people.

文告

BN is trying desparately to click on to the power in Perak. They know that if they were to let the people to decide, the answer is very clearly written on the wall. However they will be very stupid to adapt this strategy of clicking onto the power as they will “win the battle but lose the war” as the saying goes…..

PR all along had wanted to let the rakyat decide on who to govern the state but umno/najib will not allow that to happen.

Now the pressure must come from within umno/bn itself to force najib to accede.

It is good that you issue this statement, which Perakians will thank you.

Keep up the good work, doc !

Unfortunately the rest of the BN component leaders hardly make a stance for the Rakyat.

But just try to hold on to power by whatever means at their disposal.

Still wonder why 308 happened ?

Also, does it takes a genius what will happen comes GE-13 if BN continues with this demonstration of arrogance of power ?

Oh! Koh Tsu Koon will vomit blood after reading this release. I presume you release this without his blessing.

Gerakan had been mouse quiet all these while. Hoping to escape the notice of the people, i guess.
(recently KTK seemed to have disappeared from the surface of earth)

    Well Done. Dr. Hsu

If the people are not allowed to decide now, the repercussions for BN-Umno in the next GE will be dire and predictable. And it will not be limited to Perak state. Voters will remember who did what in 2009 to frustrate their democratic rights. Their righteous anger will know no bounds. We know who abused their power and subjugated state institutions shamelessly. All for self interest. We know and we won’t forget or trust these politicians ever again.

Dr. Hsu, now is the time for you to disassociate yourself from Gerakan and BN. In fact, right thinking BNders should be disassociated themselves from their respective parties.

Just curious why at this critical moment the Sultan of Perak is out of the country. I can’t believe that.

    This guy is stubborn
He dare not go for fresh election
    Appealed against High Court decision
    Against Perakians’ and Malaysians’ aspiration

A super-fast track stay of execution
    Was awarded to this stubborn
But how to stop execution of a ‘declaration’?
This stubborn is still in illusion

High Court made the right decision
By observing to spirit of the Constitution
A good starting point for restoration
To make our Judiciary an independent institution
Yet, the higher court makes a U-turn

Sincerely hope Sultan agrees to dissolution
    To clear all these confusion
What is the use being in illusion?
    Which couldn’t solve Perakian’s dissatisfaction

Now is the time you rise to occasion
    To reach a satisfactory conclusion

It is shameful to have Perak Crisis to come to this low state. BN has comiitted an hideous politcal blunder in the eyes of the rakyat. BN is going deeper into the hole as day passes by. Let us have some sense of dignity and reponsibilities in the long road of nation building.
Go for a political solution ie hold a fresh state election, like what our leader have said, if a mistake is made , let us be brave enough to admit it and make whatsoever corrective steps to remedy the situation.

Millions of right thinking Malaysians share your views Dr Hsu.

These nonsense has to end and end now otherwise irreparable damage will be done to our democratic system of government.

I’m reminded of the constitutional crisis during the US presidential elections between Bush and Gore. Even though technically Gore could have continued to challenge the outcome, he chose to back out citing that the damage to America’s democracy was too high a price to pay.

Since all these nonsense were started by UMNO/BN, it is imperative on them to stop it now!

Also, there is a noticeable shift of PM Najib who seems to be distancing himself stating that it is up to Zambry to decide what to do next… looks like the future Mandela or Gandhi is being set up to be the fall guy.

    Dr. Hsu,

You can articulate points much better and sensible than KTK. To a lot of people, KTK is just like a parrot who does not has his own thinking but to parrot on what his masters say.

For Gerakan to regain support from voters, so long as this parrot and his team is there, I can tell you there is zero chance for that. Only people like you and those like-minded people can revive Gerakan’s popularity amongst voters. But as long as the party is in BN, there is no chance for voters to give back their supports.

We do not need to look far but just on Perak crisis. KTK and his gang did not even voice out people’s aspiration but happily accepted positions through back-door listing. Just wondering these people know the word ‘shameful’.

This Perak crisis alone can justify you and your friends to leave Gerakan. Still giving hope to KTK and his gangs?

I would say that Gerakan needs to get back to its roots while this memories still last amongst the majority of the electorate.

You won’t be so lucky with the younger generation voters.

Our sincere believe that Dr Hsu is the only decent Gerakan leader left (besides those who already quit this platform).

Umno raps Gerakan’s Teng for comment on Perak crisis
    http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/index.php/malaysia/26473-umno-raps-gerakans-teng-for-comment-on-perak-crisis

IPOH, May 14 — Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan was today criticised for proposing the Perak state assembly be dissolved as his comment can cause friction in Barisan Nasional (BN).

“In this situation, he should instead encourage and support BN,” Kubu Gajah assemblyman Datuk Seri Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar told Bernama.

He said Teng should also instead focus on efforts to rebuild Gerakan in Penang.

“Doesn’t Teng know that BN has the majority voice in Perak? Doesn’t he know that the crisis in Perak is due to Pakatan Rakyat’s refusal to accept the fact that they have lost the majority?” he asked.

At a press conference in Penang yesterday, Teng said that dissolving the Perak state assembly would enable the people of Perak to decide who should rule the state.

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said it should be explained to the people of Perak why BN had the right to govern the state as BN had the majority in the state assembly.

“The Perak political crisis is a national issue and needs to be explained to everyone in the state to avoid confusion,” he said.

Ahmad, who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said he would explain every issue pertaining to the Perak political crisis during his visits to the states soon. — Bernama

and btw, the prefect party president still play numb.

    dr hsu

your gerakan chang is all for the putsch.

your gerakan grabbed a piece of land meant for public utilities and turn it into BU 8.

your gerakan president aint gonna come forward to reveal the reasons for the land fiasco in Penang which resulted in the state govt having to cough out a large sum of money as compensation. all becuase he thinks the present govt will politicise the issue. goodness, you are talking about millions of taxpayers’ money down the tube which could be used to help the poor and he is more concern about politics.

Dr hsu, i wonder why decent individuals like you still stay in gerakan and hope the party will change.

I think the chances of Perak going back to the people is much higher now.

All in the civil society must make a stand and push for a fresh election.

BN would have no choice but to bow to public pressure. ALready I was told even many in UMNO are asking for the Assembly be dissolved.

Bloggers and commentators, keep up the pressure, we are almost there!
