Prediction! – The Penang Second Crossing Bridge MAY also become a Bridge so under-utilised after it’s completion in year 2011.
There are many Penangite like me disagree with the location to built this second link. Second link should be built at the north linking Bagan Jermal in the island to Bagan Ajam in Butterworth.

Why is the proposed 3rd bridge from Johor to Singapore so far away…? Good question but I have no answers. Up till now, I cannot figure out why Sepang International Airport has to be so far away from KL. Unless there is consistency in warped decision making or a hidden agenda. Quick! Check who owns large tracts of land near the proposed 3rd bridge site.

cheap agricultural land will all of sudden become premium land. Many people will become rich. There is no more picking in Iskandar as the magic is already done. So a new trick is needed.

I put forward a contrarian view of the Penang Bridge.
I suggest that the 2nd bridge should not be build. And the first bridge be dismantled. Isolate the island from the Mainland. Have a more efficient ferry system connecting the island and the mainland.
This deliberate isolation will slow the pace in physical development in Penang. This would make Penang a more pleasant place and prevent unnecessary development.
Use the money for an efficient mass transit system for the island.

People,
live and stay in penang, we need the two bridges.
I commute bt kawan daily on first bridge with thousands of other Penangites.
Ferry is limited, can it operate to ferry 50,000-60,000
vehicles per day?
Has anybody thought what happens to Penang economy if the first bridge collaspsed?
Remember last few years when theres this news that first bridge had a bomb? the bridge was closed for a few hours and it was this mega massive traffic jam on the island and seberang perai.
whatever it is ,the second brigde is a contingency if ever first bridge collapsed.
whoever does not live in penang island and not commuting to work by the first bridge daily, would never understand why bridges is important.
The 2nd link project has taken off, delayed now and
rakyat wants it to complete.
Why is Federal Govt taking so long time to restructure UEM if it ever wants to proof rakyat honouring to its words? hhhmmmm……
State Govt cant do much, when infra projects in states have terms & conditions with the Federal unless state govt loosen itself from the country called Malaysia then can suka do what its wants.

While we Malaysian had our thumb up our ass, still trying to figure to build or not to build….
….. just like the infamous Penang LRT that have been promised by every new politician to death….
… just came back from Shenzhen, and the pace of development is totally not slowing down at all. I remember first going there about 10 years ago, and there was no underground train (Metro)….
…. this trip, they starting to get the 3rd line online already….
…. cost of living in Shenzhen is already higher than in Penang….. average salary of engineers are also on par…. but they have a much bigger manufacturing base and indigenous industry…
while we Penangites still depending on multi-national companies who comes and goes at their whims and we left with little, if any, indigenous technology and IPs.
… the reality is that, we have to hire foreigner to design and build our bridges…. and nowadays, even borrow from foreign country….
Was at an Auto Show 2 weekends ago in Shenzhen, almost every make of cars are there, many China local-branded cars as well, and I was searching all over for Proton, but cannot find them there.
Here is the biggest market for automobile and Proton is not even present, no need to go into the pseudo-local cars like Perodua, Kia, etc….
So, you tell me, Proton is really a global business, or is it just in the business of milking the Rakyat ?

The source said he thinks the palace will do the same in the case of Murugiah.

Huan is now talking of the possibility of joining another BN party – MCA ?? It will be good of he joins MCA. Then his 1000 supporters can move to MCA.
This can be the start of the merger of MCA and Gerakan. This is a good thing. I would encourage Huan to move to MCA.
And another thing. Based on the assets of Gerakan, do you know that it is worth more died than alive. I believe that based of the Society Act, the CWC or is it the CC who would vote on the disposition of the asset if it is wound up. Just a thought.
So, I am not surprised that LKY would want to continue the dynasty.

Lim Keng Yaik would want his son to continue his legacy as president of gerakan and at the same time, inherit all the assets of Gerakan.
Most of the assets in Gerakan is held on trust by LKY for gerakan. So, Koh Tsu Koon must listen to LKY.
My guess is after KTK, LKY will ask KTK to arrange for his son to be Deputy president and then take over as president of party (along with all the assets of the party including Menara PGRM – which he will transfer to his son as trustee for gerakan and LKY’s family)!!!

The further the bridge, the higher the cost ! Thus, more people can share that pie and many more can be millionaire. The effect will multiply and the cronies will be laughing to the banks whereas the folks around the socalled project will have to sell their lands and move elsewhere.
Insider trading and bargaining will take place for those lands with the most coverted ones using proxies etc. All who are connected to the project will see sunshine and rainbow BUT the tax payers end up as suckers again and again!!!
My take is this, if the second link in Johor has reaches its peak, go for it and until then please concentrate on Penang. If they are unwilling to move even on Penang second link after spending so much money, then the choice for GE 2013 is clear cut. These federal politikus are into politics only for their own pocket and not even their party pocket as with the change of regime, project just can’t move maybe due to internal ramblings.

For the answer to the question, always look for the real estate angle! Check who owns the land where the proposed bridge is going to land! Now once the proposed bridge is approved for building, the land where the bridge lands, the price of that place will shoot up. Suddenly the cheap plantation or agriculture land will be reclassified as commercial land, and the value quadrupled. Just like KLIA, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, everything is about real estate and property development.

After so many years (since 2009 until now 2011), i never understand why the proposed Singapore-Malaysia third link is so far away.
Now I know.
It is because of the refinery and petrochemical plans, supposedly one the the largest in Asia Pacific, will be built at Pengerang. The bridge is need for logistic to Singapore. Now it all makes sense.
