Survival Guide for ambitious politicians part 2

Today I will post part 2 of the survival guide penned by klm: (for part 1 , click here)

How to survive as No.2

The No.2 position is a dangerous place. Either you are very good or you are dead. There is no two way about it.  Keep your wits with you,   keep your eyes in the front and back, top and below and follow these rules.  With some luck, you will be  fine.

  1. No.2 is constantly under suspicion of being a traitor to the No. 1.
  2. No.2 must constantly plot to overthrow No. 1. You are forced to do this for your survival.  If you don’t want to plot against No.1 then you are dead meat.
  3. No. 2 must always put on a cherubic face – saintly, wise and constantly singing the praise of No.1.
  4. You must be a skillful actor. If you cannot act, get out of politics.
  5. Use surrogates to strike at No.1, Use only those that cannot be traced back to you.
  6. Undermine the support of No.1. Subvert his supporters to your side. There is such a thing as your enemy’s enemies are your friends
  7. Have spies and other means to listen in to No. 1 to:

(a)  get early warning if and he decide to strike at you

(b)  learn of No. 1 decisions so that you can sing praise of his wise decisions even before he announced them.

  1. In this age of the Internet, you and your family must appear to look whiter than white. Hide your skeletons securely and out of sight.  If you cannot hide your secrets, get out of politics.
  2. Never have your tryst in the same place too often. Predictability is bad for  your health.

10.  Never be seen as too friendly with No. 3.

11.  As No. 2 the supporters are either for you or him. Build and consolidate your support. Promise the heaven and promise the hell – richness and plunders (for your supporters)   when you win and fire and brimstone (for the other supporters) when you win.

12.  You only have one chance to strike at No.1 Chose your time and place. Patience is a virtue. When you strike, make sure there are no prisoners. If the wind is not blowing your way, then do nothing.

How to survive as No.3

Being No. 3 put you on the path to power and wealth. Play your game right and you will get there. Keep your wits, keep your eyes to the front and back, and learn well. Follow these rules and you will do well.

  1. No.3 is a good position. No.2 is sandwiched between No.1 and No.3 like a bound crab. No 2. has to watch front and back.  No.3 has only to watch his back.
  2. Time to whitewash your closet. Bury your and your family’s skeletons. If you cannot bury the skeletons, get out of politics.
  3. You have enough time to remove the stink from any dead body before you get to be No.1. Do not try anything until your closet is white.
  4. No. 3 must be seen as loyal, honest and trustworthy. So start acting. If you cannot act, take lessons. This is essential for your survival.
  5. Build your support from all bases. Do not be seen as a threat to anyone.
  6. Patience and caution must be your virtue. Never overplay your hand. Test the water before putting your feet in, You never know what is lurking under the water.
  7. Bid your time. Get No.1 to fight with No.2. Get out of their way. There is a Swahili saying that goes: “When two elephants fight, the grass suffers; and, when the same two elephants make love, the grass also suffers.”
  8. Be absolutely sure if and when you strike. You must kill 2 birds with one stone. You cannot afford to take any prisoners. But if you are not prepared for No.1 and No 2 hitting back, then back off. You have one chance and one chance only of striking. Failure is not an option if you do strike.
  9. If you caught red handed, blame the committee. There is safety in numbers.

10.  If all else fail , you can jump from the 14th floor.

Do not blame me if things do not work out.  It must the poor execution of the tactics.  The Strategy may be mine, but the execution is yours

RPK wrote a very good article on AI and the link is :

That is exactly what i feel and i am sure many in the middle ground feel the same thing..

There is in fact a vacuum in the middle, people are very fed up with BN, but some of those who are fed up with BN is starting to get fed up with PR… As RPK has said, they reached the finish line and may have forgotten what they set out to do and may never cross the finish line ..

A credible third force would be well poise to take advantage of this situation, but sadly, there is none , and Gerakan has mised the best chance for revival when it refuses calls to move out into the centre…

Being No. 2, never just protect your No. 2 post during a crisis unless u are cock sure the contender you supported for No. 1 will win. Otherwise, offer yourself as a third choice of No.1. Go for broke because u will never survive even u win the No.2 when your man loss his No. 1.

No. 3 is a enviable position. Just make sure No. 1 and No. 2 slaughter each other till both critically injured. Then u shall be crowned as the natural successor. But never be seen as the instigator even in actual fire u secretly set up fire all round to burn both abode of the No.1 and No. 2.

No. 1 is most position difficult to defend. He must make sure he constantly renew the wish list and confidence of the followers (grass root) so that they never feel bored and looking up to u to make their dream alive. How? give them something to aspire on or work on towards a better future (if u r as good as LKY) , other wise create some fantasies for them to dream on ( like what Dr. M did – vision 2020, MSC, stand tall side by side with US by showing he can whack US president by mouth only). People feel bored easily, No. 1 really need to come with “new thing” every now and then to keep them awake and be with u just like celebrities did. U will fade away as soon as u fail to “arouse” your supporters or fans to remind them you still exists.

For some please dont forget, the no. 1 depends a lot on the no. A1, because he might not be in the counting from a bigger picture.

What if all the above fail..get a hired killer and knock out the most vicious opponent and it will drive fear into others.

    Comes cheap nowadays.

    “Fear Factor””

    Dr. Hsu,

I told you and all before,

    a) PKR is the weakest link in Pakatan Rakyat, due mainly to many ex-Umno, and frogs from other parties,

    b) Umno is “master strategist” with no consideration of ethics,

Port Klang Badrul becomes BN friendly Independent because of (a) and (b) above. Some more to come.

    Problems in Sabah also.

Can never look at the surface with sly fox around. Fishy smell all over.

Tok Guru Nik Aziz can smell better and is quick to arrest the PAS problems, also because of (a) and (b) above.

I said before also, DAP is a true blue multiracial party. Malays should be encouraged to join to balance up the power equation in Pakatan Rakyat.

Rid of these problems will make Pakatan on stronger footing.

Remember guys, don’t look at the surface. Umno is all out to break Pakatan, mark my words.

Maybe I can see better for not being in political party. Dr. Hsu, forget about the third force and abandon Gerakan. They cannot be third force. You can if you form one. Many will join you.

On Nik Aziz. His problem is that he has no control over PAS party machinery. That is in Hadi’s hand. Unfortunately, he only has moral leadership of PAS and not management leadership. He may be able to rally grassroots, but he dont have the organisation to fight Hadi and gang. This is a bit like Dr.M now. His only weapon is words. He can write, he can speak, but he cannot give direction and instruction.

So PAS will remain the mixed up party that it is. I dont give much hope for it.

Aiya Doc , are you saying that honorable people should not be political leaders ?

I beg to differ from what you commented. Nik Aziz is not any Tom, Dick, Harry. He is not in Kelantan 20 over years for nothing.

Few can withstand M, but not Nik Aziz. How to compare then?

You underestimated this grand old man. The other grand old man is already out. Not this one.

This grand old man is still a simple person after 20 over years, but not that grand old man. Why? Because of high morality (haha cilipadi is so right).

That is the art of politic. The art of impossible to be possible and possible that can be impossible. Like an old saying say “eat salted fish must bear the thirst”.

What we want is vision and goal of this political party? What are they really interested in? Power and the hunger of it.

The “Mana Cari Angpow” well is heading for more shit and the shit is going to hit the fan this week or early next week.

The Number 15: part two for number man 2.

Get a sharp chopper and chop, chop and chop. Yes, the “sacking” of the number 2 is coming and not only him but all his gang members in the central committee.

The show gets thicker and more complicated. The Malaysian Copperfield Agency will be screening heart breaking movie as superman fights spiderman!!!!! Batman? Well he will be just an audience this time, and hell, enjoying it too.

How to survive as No.3 – Revision based on latest in MCA
    * No.3 is not a formal position. The party hierarchy is made up of No. 1, No.2 and all wannabees . The spokesman of the wannabees is the de facto No.3.

No.3 has only to watch his back, most of the time.

*2. Be aware, you colleagues made you the spokesperson because they need a front to take the blame if anything goes wrong. Your head is higher that the rest and will be the first to be hit.
By the same token, you will be the first to benefit if things go right. No risk no gain.

*3 No.3 is also a vulnerable position. That is the price you pay for being in the front. There is safety in numbers. Always hunt in packs. Remember the cry of the Musketeers ” All for one and one for all”. Although I am not sure your colleagues will agree strongly with the all for one part, especially when things start going wrong.

That is the action i advocated. No mercy to the ringleaders. The problem with OTK is that he talk tough but act soft. Who would not take advantage of him. Who is afraid of a dog whose bark is worst than his bite. Maybe the first time. Moa Tse Dong called this the paper tiger. Look fierce on paper, but nothing behind. A Hollywood building.

It is high time OTK take out his chopper. If he cannot stand the blood, get an executioner. It must be done.

Correct me if I am wrong. After 2 millenniums under the emperors, Chinese psyche is to automatically fall in obedience when the emperor
start cracking the whips. I think MCA would behave the same way. Whack the lot and the rest will fall into line.

I see the solution. Superman should follow the Japanese culture. He should commit harakiri. Chop himself first and the rest should be peaceful. The party cannot allow a lone ranger who thinks he need not consult the CC on his plans and actions and yet in a press statement, said nobody should be left out being not consulted. Is he English proficient or having parkingson disease? Doublespeak and misleading the public?

Superman thinks he is Mao T Tung or what? A LKY? No, Kim, superman has form but no substance.

I’m a No. 2 person in the organisation I’m in :)….haha…yes, I can relate to many of the points you raised… 🙂

There are advantages to not having to take all the heat when things are not all going right….but plenty of disadvantages as well…..

Anyway, I don’t aspire to be No. 1….that sort of helps for a smoother relationship with No. 1.

In Mana Chari Angpow, history showed the no 2 NEVER takes over no.1.

History also showed the Hell Minister always jinxed and don’t last.

History also proven, the angpow association eternally jinxed by quarreling and squabbling.
