Change or be changed

As a person who calls a spade a spade, and who gives credit where credit is due, I think the PM gave a  good speech yesterday at the Gerakan National Delegates Conference.

The delivery was good, and no doubt he is a much better speaker than his predecessor. He spoke without looking at any script, well spirited,  gesticulated and articulated very well. He  was also very humourous.

By any standard, he is a formidable speaker, and I think I am quite qualified to say that because  I was a former Toastmaster and was once the president of a Toastmaster club, and I have been invited to judge and evaluate speakers of other toastmaster clubs as well as speech competitions before.

He said it loud and clear ” I am not the prime minister for the Malays only; I am the prime minister for all Malaysians” and when he said that, he was gesticulating with a firm voice, giving an impression that he is committed and speaking from his heart..

Many of those present told me that they were impressed and felt that his message is good.

I am impressed too. But while I wanted to believe, there is this nagging feeling that this might be like another 2004 , when the then PM spoke about being a PM for all and that people should ‘work with him ‘ and not for him. The then PM won th biggest maority in 2004, only to lose the popular votes in Peninsular Malaysia 4 years later.

Is this going to be like 2004, when pure rhetoric was given but nothing concrete was seen later on?

For the sake of Malaysians and the future of Malaysia, I hope that all that was spoken will be put into action without delay, without fear or favour,  and that the government can become truly  all inclusive, with fair and equal treatment meted o to everyone irrespective of race and religion.

Talk must be walked and that too must be done without delay. And the first thing perhaps is to merge all racial parties into a single nonracial entity and racial politics should be discarded by all.

After 2004, when expectations were built to so high, disappointment set in and disenchantment  became so great that all of us wanted a change for better.

I shall wait and see whether the real changes will be implemented…..ANd i hope those power that be realised that this would be their  last chance, and if they do not keep to their word for change, they would definitely be changed..

Dr. Hsu. The TV keep playing the section where he talked about the Thing. The unmentionable Thing. Yes, he was very good at speaking of the Thing.

Unfortunately, Gerakan has lost its Thing. Especially with Koh Tsu Koon. He has no the Thing.

38% attendance for Youth National conference. and yet KTK said the public are wrong to perceive Gerakan as gone case. Nak mampoi pun masih tak sedar diri ! A classic Ph.D reasoning in action …. wow. Viva Gerakan !!!!!!!

The old fox LKY must be crying in silent seeing his son being slapped in this manner. On the hand he may be laughing upon seeing the spineless KTK lack of direction. What else, it may be better than none for his son to inherit a GELAKKAN party. At least a party president mah. Everybody has a happy Halloween.

Dr Hsu must had a nice boxing match with the rest of CC members. Who was jabbed and who did a left hook below the belly of KTK? Perhaps they had a round of vodka and then announcing all the resolution were passed unanimously. Oops…. sorry what i meant is there were no questions raised at all. Betul betul Satu Hati but Satu Otak Tak Berfungsi. You cut already, Mr KTK ?

Dr Lim Chong Eu, he still has my respect but not the others like LKY, KCT, PL, MC, …… who occupied their seats with too much attachment to power and wealth.

Good talk, ain’t you all not feedup with it? Whatever, talks are cheap, be it good, excellent or whatever and if they are not walked, it is nothing.

My last posting is exactly to debunk all his talk and not walk his talk nonsense.

“The more PM Najib speaks, the more it shows his hypocrisy and stupidity. The more he talks the more it deviates from his own manufactured slogan of “1Malaysia, People First Performance Now” rhetoric.

A wrong is a wrong, it does not matter one, two or a dozen people committed it. If it is wrong, actions must be taken, they cannot be defended and the wrong cannot just be swiped under the carpet.

But i am suprise how come so many reported in media …….400 to 500????
The room for the youth meeting only got 300 seats and got so many seat empty.

Najib is far too wily to be caught out doing nothing much by way of promised reform. He will do a little bit here, a little bit there, without really coming to grips with the evils of institutionalized discrimination and dismantling the entrenched race oriented apparatus in our society. Those tasks need a fearless, honor driven man with giant sized shoes, not one with privileged upbringing who inherited his premiership.

Do away with race based parties and race based politics? Too much to ask for in too short a time. Whatever his reformist intentions for Malaysia, it does not include political ignominy for it is clear Umno is not ready to embrace an open society. To avoid disappointment, do not expect too much from Najib.

As said earlier, a gentleman`s word is worth his weight in gold, it is up to our PM to prove his commitment and honour to the millions of his rakyat. His legacy will be recorded and his deeds and merits will be remembered.

The premiership is the most powerful office in Malaysia and if the PM is sincere and speaking from a mouth that links to the heart, it`ll be quite posible for us to see the positive changes we yearned for.

If we put minds, efforts and hardworks to a sound cause, we can change and advance to a higher level,…….when there`s a will, there`s a way!

Gerakan Youth Chief propose to use women to attract youth.
    ———————

(The Star) – Gerakan Youth chief Lim Si Pin has lashed out at his central committee members for failing to turn up in full force for its national delegates conference.

Only 406 youth delegates, or 38.5%, were present and this was the worst turnout in the 22 years since the wing was formed.

“This is an alarming and difficult question for us. Why is our turnout so bad this year?”

Meanwhile, a representative from Beliawanis Chia Ting Ting, when debating on the presidential address at the Gerakan’s National Delegates’ Conference, said the group wanted to be known for its professionalism and skills and not
just mere “beauty” to attract people to join the party.

“There is no point in Gerakan Youth wanting to attract men to join the wing using our beauty.

“We want to be known for our principles and professionalism,” said Chia. Beliawanis is a bureau within Wanita Gerakan for women below age 35.

Lim had suggested that allowing young women from Beliawanis to participate in the wing’s activities would motivate more youths to join in. Wanita Chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe disagreed with the proposal.

Wanita representative Rowena Yam said most women had careers and were bosses in their own right.

“We are first among equals. We don’t want to be equated to the flowers just to attract the bees,” she said.

In his winding up debate on the presidential address, Lim said the proposal should be “put to a test” by having an independent poll among Beliawanis members.

Your comment on RPK latest posting:

There are many of us who are disappointed and disillusioned with Pakatan Rakyat. And we would rather die than support Barisan Nasional. But we have nowhere else to go. So we need a new platform. And if Gerakan can be that new platform we would certainly give it a chance.

What RPK has said has been what I have always advocated.
I have seen that after 308 last year that there is a vacuum in the middle ground, and I have always doubted and sceptical whether Gerakan can change within the confine of BN.. ANd the sceptic that PM is refering to in Gerakan in his speech yesterday obviously refered to ‘yours truly’…I am sure he gets reports from the intelligence about what I have been saying inside party meetings and outside in my blogs and online media…

My role inside is not easy and of late it is getting lonelier. BUt I do not plot and instigate .. I only speak and write my mind. On Friday, in meeting, I mentioned exactly like what RPK has just published today , and I was the lone voice and my colleagues all laughed at me when I said it is not too late still to do that…

BUt to be credible, Gerakan needs to have strong Malay leaders in the mould of Zaid Ibrahim …

In the olden days, during our forefather’s time, talk is as precious as gold. Thus the adage – ‘The teeth could be used as gold’! Meaning, words of mouth through the teeth was as credible and as precious as gold when all words would be delivered.

The old Chinamen when doing business, they needed no lawyer to draft them contract or agreement, all transactions would be sealed with only words of mouth. The called it creditability and anyone who acted against their words would not gain trust from anywhere and hardly they could survive in the business circle, thus bankrupt of creditability led them nowhere but doomed!

Words nowadays are very cheap! The words of any politicians are even cheaper. Much more cheaper than the words of the pimps! Only you can talk like cock and mingle with some gestures and complete with some cheap showmanship, mixed with plenty of saliva, like LKY’s, you will be able to receive overwelming responses of bravo and encore!

More so amidst the soft-minded and simpleton minds of those youthful delegates, they will treat you like godfather only if you could speak well, be it all the claptrap, never mind, and they would be fully entertained!

Didn’t the first lady Rosma two days ago had a talk session with those disabled in a spastic children’s home? She talked so great about unity and harmony and blah blah and i wonder if she knew anything about what the people wants of unity and harmony! Only the spastic children who had lost their vision would probably listen to her words of cheap icing on the cake!

Gerakan started to decline when it moved its party HQ to KL. Instead of being a big fish in a small pond, it wanted to be a small fish in a big pond. Lim Keng Yaik essentially told the people of Penang, that Penang is too small for him and Gerakan. Of course, over time Penang made it there is no more gerakan fish in small pond.

This is like corporate strategy. A egoistic CEO who has no regards for customers concern and interest. Many companies died because of their stupid CEOs. My favourite CEO of the stupid kind is Carly Fiorina, formely CEO of HP.

The move to destruction started with Lim Keng Yaik. Yes, he is the cause of Gerakan’s previous success. But he is also the seed of Gerakan’s demise. The ligh weight Koh Tsu Koon will be blamed in the history book for the demise of Gerakan.

If PM Najib is a good orator, he is good. I don’t deny it, but credit is due to that extent, no more, no less, or “gam gam” in Hokkien and Cantonese.

As far as I am concerned, PM is trying very hard to convince people his sincerity to make Malaysia better, but, so long as allegations against him and his wife as what we read in Malaysia Today and other blogs are not convincingly answered, people will just regard his efforts as more of propaganda.

As for Gerakan, if it was not PM Najib opening the NDC, there is actually nothing to talk about.

Dr. Hsu, you are indeed a loner in Gerakan now. I can feel it with your closing statement. “They”, apparently do not include yourself. Again, I am still “confused” of your role in “Gelakan”.

I have been saying what he wrote in his article for many months, but indeed my voice is lonelier and lonelier. In the last meeting, everyone laughed when i mentioned the same thing again, laughed not as if they are happy, but laughed to show that I am like a joker…But at least now, we have rpk who is thinking along my line of thinking… and maybe we are looking ahead of our time….

I feel that rpk’s article has shown that I am not the only one thinking of a third force, and i am not a joker…I am more or less vindicated by RPK who is instrumental in bringing down BN’s popularity, when RPk also talked about the third force… I was the earliest one to voice out in 2006…I better stop here lest some peole might attack me for harping on this 2006 thing….

During the early part of 2nd world war, after the fall of France, and British army lost most of their heavy equipment in Dunkirk, where the army was evacuated , Vichy negotiated with Hilter and set up a Vichy government taking control of the lower Half of france… The lone french general called De Gaule fled to London and there he started the Free France movement. Many french in Vichy side laughed at De Gaulle, saying that all have been lost , and that soon Britain would be conquered too, why not come over and joined Vichy. De Gaulle with the small army that he mustered in UK, decided to stay put and fight to recover France.. the rest is history… The ‘joker’ was vindicated..

Dr Hsu. May I add a bit to the De Gaulle story. In those dark days in France, the generals running the show were proud, arrogant and out of touch. They spent their time fighting each other. (don’t it sounds like MCA and Gerakan). De Gaulle was young general in charge of the tank force. He was the odd man out trying to get the French Command to use mobile tank attack strategy (like the German blitzkrieg) instead of spreading the tanks as support to the infantry. He got no way. He was treated as a renegade. ( dont that sound like Dr. Hsu).

(Just for record, The French Army before the start of the 2nd WW had more advanced tanks than the Germans and more tanks, too. But they lost due to incompetence and infighting). Dont this sound like BN.

3rd force existed in Gerakan before, its during their formation stage where Syed Hussein Alatas, Lim Chong Eu, Ahmad Boestaman, Tan Chee Khoon… and many others were upholding the principle of social justice that transcend the boundary of race. But now, there are only greed for power (fame) and wealth (want to be orang atasan). Next, they have only clowns in the Youth movement and the story continues with blank pages…. nothing more to be written/told.

Dr, perhaps u can focus on the marginalised section of the society,i mean the lower income and less educated group. They are the one who will suffer the most if the free for all immigrants influx under BN gomen to continue. the economic theory of scarcity will set in whereby marginal unskilled labor will be easy replace by immigrants at lower cost. This is something welcome by the elites or towkays as they benefited in maintaining cost or perhaps increase profit. This vicious circle happened and continue for many centuries to come. but who cares if not the social justice crusader. this is olso the reason why i said earlier i admire and respect PSM leader such as Dr Nasir Hashim and Dr Jeyakumar. Similarly, Karl Marx’s communism is not as bad as most people perceived, may be it needs a little modification according to time and administer by the right people.

There is always class struggle between people from different strata of society. And this is the essence for every politicians/social workers to work on. we may not like it but it existed for ages in every corner of the world. Perhaps economists are best observers and witnesses of this phenomenon.

With the father (LKY) and the son, and the god son (KTK) staying at helm of Gerakan, 10 times Dr Hsu’s voices boosting up to 3000W will not do any good to change the patriarchal management culture of the whole Gerakan!

To leave or not to leave BN, it’s not all the sole jurisdiction of KTK and the old goats behind the screen are virtually the ones who pull the string, the puppet is KTK! The members with conscience apparently are wasting their times in giving their noble discourse in the NDC as good as they were only side playing the drums and trumpet as a garnishment to the occasion!

To really change the Party for good, as RPK had said, all the old horses will have to go and to be chased out from the staples! Which includes those old horses which are keeping as the nobs of the Party on the national level, as well as the old and outdated dictionary still in use on the founding State, Penang. Those are all the obstacles to the Party’s advancement!

only then the fresh blood and the conscientious youthful leadership will be able to rise and helm over the Party to kick start the dire reforms the fair-minded Party members and the Chinese community at large are yearning for!

With Dr Hsu playing a cameo role even with his notable conscience, it will do nothing to help reinvent the Party. Look at those predecessors, the well spoken about ‘conscience of Gerakan’ such as Dr Toh and the several founders and the Party veterans, and where are they now? How were they being preordained and made to shy away from the scenario of active politics, with Tun Lim included, to give up in total of the ‘Gelakan’ politics, and save themselves from becoming a part of the clownish show in the circus!

There is always a reason of the the Party’s enormous value of the Party’s assets, the old goats are still reluctant to budge away from the hatch of the coffer which needs the solidarity of powers from the grass roots and the younger leaders to move these fossils away and discard them into the cesspool to join their cohorts as scums! Then a new Gerakan can only reborn!

Dr Hsu should strain every of his nerve to think of how to lead the crusade for a good cause instead of continue to voice out to the feudalistic old cocks who will only feel irated by all the griping the old guards will consider!

Trust me, Dr Hsu was talking to the wall all those while!

    steve,

U are right! This is the era for revolution! Never mind the umno goons are going to talk corks in the Parliament teasing MCA for so much of infighting. Umno was a role model for all these monkey business and Gerakan at the most will be seen as the inheritor of such norm!

The ‘someone’ that you are talking about is already here – Dr Hsu is the man! He can fight from bottom to up based on the so-called tribal system. It all depends on when he wants to use that ‘thingy’ he already had for a noble cause of saving Gelakan from sinking!

The rule is simple – there should be no two way about it! Our venerable Dr. has to choose between a social worker or a politician. Then slug it out!

I for one will support him…

Whilst the PM may be a good speaker, claiming to be a leader for all is just empty talk. Time and time again, many leaders have claimed to be working for the good of the people they lead. Yet, we all know well, many have robbed their country blind.

Thus far, I see little to feel this PM is a 1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now PM. If he is, I would love to hear some real change for the better that he has delivered.

Our PDRM continues as it has always been, if not worst. As for the judiciary, well you all can draw your own conclusion. Fighting corruption? MACC? Setting our MSM free?

Sadly, our nation will get the government it deserves. If not enough of us work towards change and reject the crooks that now run our country, our children will inherit a 3rd world country.

To transform our country, we need to transform ourselves. If we are honest, it is not easy. Can we set aside our prejudices and chauvinist tendencies? Will we walk the 1Malaysia that we speak off?

How does “1Stream” school feel to you?

    Dr Hsu,

I do not know if you are aware that blogger Bernard Khoo aka zorro-unmasked is being hauled up to face the PDRM.

He is such a gentle person and a true Malaysian at that and I now give your party a test.

Tell KTK led Gerakan to raise a ruckus about silencing civil society. Bernard is less of a threat to the country than your party’s continued support of racist and hegemonic UMNO!

If spineless KTK can get the PDRM to release Bernard Khoo without conditions, I may support your idea of a 3rd party. Failure to do that within 24 hrs will mean that the party you support will vehemently be opposed like that bastards in UMNO.

Sorry doc, much as I respect you as an intellect, the line has to be drawn …… and I draw it HERE!!!

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SU)
    =================================

This is new university build along the line of MIT.

Key characteristics of the new U:

    – Design
    – Systems
    – Multi discipline
    – Entrepreneurship
    – Best of best students
    – best of the best faculties

What I think is that it can be the MIT of Asea or even Asia since there is no institution like this yet. And guess what. The little red dot will attract the best of the best in Asia to it.

The little red dot has taken 2 steps ahead of 1Malaysia. Quietly and strategically. LKY is no fool.

I had an interesting chat with my neighbour. He is in the chemical manufacturing business. He asked where are all the non-bumi chemical engineers. When he advertised for chemical engineers, there are no non-bumi applications.

Either no one is studying chemical engineering or none are coming back.

The answer is – none of them are coming back!

And mostly going to the little red dot are quite definitely non-Bumi and little are those elitist Bumi as sorry to say, most of the scholarship Bumi earners are being sent to Japan or Australia or even US which they took up are mostly non-Science stream! Chemical Engineering is too much for them to digest with their only well versed language not acceptable to a U of that high standard lah!

Some more they are trying to make a U-turn back to one stream school which will only further stream them to Holand! They just dun learn the basic, let alone advance!

“I am currently looking at Gerakan. Somehow I have a soft spot for Gerakan — always had since 1968. But I don’t mean the Gerakan in its present form. That is just not acceptable. It has to be a Gerakan that is out of Barisan Nasional, an independent party or third force. It has to be a Gerakan that sheds its Barisan Nasional culture. Many of the ‘old horses’ and tainted leaders have to go. We need a revamped and revitalised Gerakan that offers itself as a true Malaysian party minus the racist and religious platform.” …..By RPK

You see, his view here is consistent with mine. A true blue multiracial party should be clear of “religion” element. There should be no religious element in the party. So far, only DAP qualify this, not Gerakan, not PKR. That’s the reason why Malays who join DAP are somehow “different”. They keep religion at home (ie private), not at public places.

Yes, once religion is politicized, it becomes cheap rhetoric and further would be posed as political histrionics!

Hence it loses all the intrinsic value and deviate from the true scriptures of a real good religion. All religions are good, only the peoples make it bad!

So it’s good idea to keep religion at home, and at hearts…

    klm,

They’re not coming back. My daughter, a chemical engineer from Melbourne U, was retrenched in April09 from an MNC downsizing its Australian subsidiary. After 4 years with them, retrenchment benefits amounted to some 6 months pay.

She returned to Malaysia in June09, looked around, attended some interviews with MNCs hoping for a pay packet around RM90k/S90k pa which compares with the A$90k pa she last drew in Australia. Got one pathetic offer of contract employment from a Singapore based MNC. Promptly returned to Australia, extended her job search and now have 2 decent job offers to evaluate.

Your neighbor can’t expect to attract foreign trained chemical engineer at local wages. Just do the maths, a 4 years chemical engineering course in an Australian U will cost A$180k in fees and living expenses; or A$45k pa minimum. Is your neighbor even paying RM45k pa? What about working conditions, training, exposure, future prospects………..really, as an employee, an MNC in a high wage country is the place to be. Needless to say, my daughter is’nt coming back to Malaysia to work.

    MCA Talk
    ======

    What it really means.

Close rank for the sake of the party – Niamah! Wait till I build back my strength and I shall take my revenge

Greater Unity Plan – Shit! I need his support. I had better make up with him.

New EGM – Better give me what I want or I make trouble

CC is the highest decision making body – Heh! Heh! You dont have the numbers.

Unity Plan – It is good only if I am given a party post

I am still the deputy president of MCA – I like the golden door knob of the toilet door in the deputy president’s room to much.

All the party’s central committee members to quit their posts to allow for new elections to be held (Chew Mei Fun) – Heh! Heh! He!. I am automatically a CC member by virtue of being Wanita Head. It do not apply to me.

Doc, if you want him to change him and want to change BN then you must not be changed by him.

Moreover, it is just a speech which, most likely, does not truly represent his personal beliefs.

    dr.hsu,

Najib or the rest of our PM before him for sure will and always say nice n good things about the BN component party when invited for opening speech to make everybody feel good and publish on all main stream media and press. What ever those politician say may not be true or even from their own heart, cant believe everything they say. They already condition their mind before they come n make speech in public in order to let people believe what they say. Remember, this is what politician do for a living by influence people/rakyat.

I personally believe najib is trying is last effort this time trying to save gerakan and KTK by saying those good good things as u mention after BN component party especially gerakan lost so terrible on last GE and losing majority chinese community votes and support. If Gerakan n KTK especially still unable to perform n deliver, i strongly believe najib/umno will let go gerakan on next GE since gerakan already useless to BN due losing rakyat confident especially chinese voter support. That time gerakan can only blame themselves as people(UMNO) have given chance to gerakan/KTK.

He(najib) himself appoint the lame gerakan chief KTK as the KPI minister even though KTK lost and rejected so badly(over 10k votes) and not even an MP, hoping this would help gerakan build up some momemtum and regain chinese support since the members moral is so low. Sadly, the lame and weak unable to perform and deliver on the minister job that was enter via back door. Najib have notice this after few months about this poor gerakan chief and quickly appoint Idrus Jala(MAS CEO) to come and help him carry out the actual KPI job while he show face at parliament and media and shamelessly take the credit.

Najib this move(helping the dying gerakan KTK) had let many UMNO MP that win n enter front door on the last GE unhappy as they think they should be apppointed as minister instead of the loser enter via back door and so darely and openly hamtam KTK at parliament(they are telling the truth) thus making najib no choice but to protect and defend the lame KTK at Gerakan opening speech. For sure najib is very disappointed giving hope KTK will do and perform something by appoint him as back door minisiter.

Now is entirely up to KTK the super minister how he going to do n perform as cabinet minister and gerakan president. He may lead gerakan to victory on next GE or may bring Gerakan to doom as well. The ball on his leg now, either strike goal or kick own goal.
