Immediately after Teoh Beng Hock’s death , I issued a statement asking that no stones should be left unturned in finding out the cause of his death. So far, 2 postmortems have been done, and in the second post mortem, some of the findings not listed in the first post mortem were found, such as the bruise mark on the neck.
The credit of findings the unlisted marks on the body must go to the famed Thai Pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand who is a renowned forensic pathologist and who topped the poll in the last issue of Readers Digest of the most trusted person in Thailand.(read here )
Without her testimony and her findings based on the photos she had seen, I doubt whether there would be a second post mortem. Most probably, the inquest would have closed its case based on the reports of the first post mortem.
She is thus vital in the search for the truth.
Therefore, it came as a big disappointment not only to the Teoh’s family but all Malaysians who wish to find out the real cause of death that she is reportedly being advised by her superior not to come to testify, allegedly because some high officials have advised Thai officials that there might be problems for her if she turns up in Malaysia.
Now that the AG as well as MACC have issued statements that she should not worry about her safety (read here for AG’s offer for protection for her), I think all of us hope that she can come and testify on April 20.
Professionally, since she has made a professional opinion which is different from her counterparts in Malaysia, she is obliged to come here and argues her case based on her opinion. Just like a doctor who has a professional obligation to a patient under his care, and must complete his professional treatment to the patient till the very end, unless the patient wishes to change doctor mid way, in this case, Dr Pornthip has an obligation to participate in this case until the very end.
SInce now that AG and the Malaysian government has offered her full protection, she should come and aid in finding out the actual cause of death. I hope that round the clock protection be given to her.
(Latest: It was reported in MI that she is now coming to testify, good news indeed!).
