Bring in other Big Fish too!

A Tun was charged in court. This is the highest ranked person so far to be charged in the history of the country.  Although in law, a person is innocent until proven otherwise, i view this as a good start for bringing big fish to book.

Hope more prosecutions can be done, and more Big Fish can be brought to court, other than this fish head..  And for successful prosecution,  MACC must be given independent status with power to prosecute, something i have been harping since the beginning of this blog in 2006.

Under the law, all men are equal. All crimes must be punished.   All those public figures who have wealth and  assets  beyond their earnings  must be investigated and if no proper reasons can be given as to how they have amassed such wealth, investigate them thoroughly and charge them!

I was in the group that met the Top in  a dialogue . It was a  closed door meeting, and since the Top came late , only a few of us got the chance to speak, and those who spoke, spoke on some of the issues that I have highlighted in the article “tips of the iceburg’.  I was one of those who spoke and i think i was the most blunt and frank, as is my usual  style. We spoke on the need to be prudent in spendings, cut the wastages,   and the need to really tackle corruption, and that MACC was  perceived to be a tool of the government…  To his credit, the Top was taking note. I cannot reveal what exactly transpired   since it was a closed door meeting, and who spoke what.

The Top is facing resistance from right wingers, as divulged by one of the Penang leaders to a Chinese press after the dialogue.  He was quoted this in Nanyang 28/7/10 edition page A8, and this is  the translation of his news (for the sake of those who do not read Mandarin) : “Perdana Menteri terasa dalam mengerakkan ideal tadbir urus negara kerana menghadapi halangan daripada sayap kanan Melayu”. I resorted to quoting this news by this person  because none of us was  supposed to say anything about what the Top had said, but since this person  has already told  this  to the press,  quoting him was an indirect way of telling my readers  out there that the Top mentioned that he is facing great resistance in his trying to move his 1M concept, be fair to everyone (like in awarding scholarships to all 9A+ (regardless of skin colour) and government reform. Of course no one knows whether he says it from his heart, but his body language told me that he was quite sincere when he mentioned that.

I have also heard from other sources that his position within his party is not as strong as before because of the right wingers including the Old Horse and his outsourced organisation Perkasa..

The fear is if he cannot deliver, he would be pushed out and the Right winger’s Head would be the next Top.. A friend from Singapore expressed the same fear in Singapore of this happening to me too recently over tea.

As a small person and an ordinary folk, I think I have answered to my conscience in speaking without fear and favour  all this while, and I have even spoken  face to face with the very Top and bluntly too.

I have played my parts and have done my best as a small man in the street, and being an ordinary person , I will probably gradually fade away from all these. I have had enough. Being attacked by both sides is demoralising.  I was also glad that while waiting for the Top to arrive, the advisor (whom I have criticised very strongly in many National Meets) commended me as ” conscience of the party”, perhaps an  indirect recognition of my being very vocal  in meetings and being without fear or favour, bringing out things that i have written in this blog, and steppng on toes of top leaders and by doing so, many of these people  view me as  even more “opposition-minded’ than many opposition members.

It is one way to show that being a member of a political party does not mean that you have to sell your soul to them. On the other hand, you can be a thorn and keep on reminding them on ideology, and being a person with no ambition and a person who has done no wrongs and no leash around the neck for them to control, they cannot do anything to you. Even though my clinic was audited ( an euphemism for ‘raid’), nothing substantial could be used against me,  and if I am really pro-government, would I suffer such a fate?

Change can come from outside and change can come from applying pressure from within. All roads lead to Rome. Though Rome , in the Malaysian sense,  is still far far away, charging this TUN is the right first step.

I have always said that, even to my own members, that it would be good for the country for  the ruling party to lose once and change for the better and then come back cleaner and stronger, like he case in Taiwan.. I have not changed this view, but in the meantime, we still need change, no matter how subtle, for the people to live better. And you still need people to speak up either within the system or as a creditable third force, even though these people will be attacked by both sides, since to one side he is with the other, and to the other side, he is viewed as more opposition than opposition. That is the role no one cherishes; only those without ambition and without hoping to get anything except harrassment or even ISA can play, since only then, you can speak without fear or favour.

Charging this Tun is certainly a surprise to many, and i supposed many other Tan Sris and Datuks are now shivering, and did not know when the next big fish will be charged.

    Hi Dr Hsu

Reform will always face resistance from
current beneficiaries of the system. Especially the
    corrupt.

But some reformers have “suceeded” e.g.
Boris Yeltsin. And other Eastern European
    ex-communist leaders.

    Dear Dr Hsu,

I have been following your blog on a very regular basis and I find your comments to be fair, honest and from your heart. Like you say, there are times where your comments are more stinging and more full of venom than what one can expect from an opposition member. Please note that I never bothered to find out which party you are from but I do remember that you are probably from a BN component party. It really does not matter to me. What matters is, you are honest, down to earth with you opinions, fair and unbaised!
Malaysians need more of you, Dr Hsu. We do not need Tuns, Tan Sris, Datuks etc. I have a greater respect for those who gained recognition because they worked hard. Those who gained recognition through their blood, sweat and tears; like the few that was recently awarded recognition for their honest contribution to society in Penang. To this, we must appreciate what our Lim Guan Eng had done thus far. He is another good example of what Malaysia needs!

Dr Hsu. Even if the Top is really sincere, he is a politician after all. His survival is paramount. Sincerity will checked in the closet.

No. I do not trust the system where the Top is working. I do not place much hope that he can achieve much. Like you said, the govt must be changed so that the filth can be flushed out of the stable. This need the strength of Hercules. The Top is no Hercules.

LLS is the worst kind of Chinese politician Malasyia ever had. I m concern with UTAR’s treasury since he is the chairperson of UTAR. UTAR’s money belongs to Chinese community and a person with minority mindset shouldn’t be there to humiliate us. This is my stand since my (TAR) college days.

Sendiwara is theme of the game and script already written with the ending of “Acquittal not amounting to discharge”. Sounds familiar isn’t it.

Dr Hsu, going by the logic where all with assets or wealth beyond their earnings should be investigated, I think all the component parties of BN will need a fresh election since they will not many (or none) left to lead. Our national budget need to allocate billions to build more prisons.

Nothing less than change of govt is the kind of reform that may save this country. By saying so I don’t mean we will have a corrupt free new govt but a new hope. Don’t deny us a hope as human beings will live a better life as long as there is hope.

By the way, where is Chan Kong Choy and Tiong King Sing ? are we not follow the modus operandi of investigate by following the trail of where the money goes? On a more serious note, why on earth the new Transport Minister overruled PKA’s decision and insisted money to be paid to the bondholder.? Will the prosecutor call our exPM, and other relevant ministers to testify since it involves cheating or deceiving the entire cabinet ?

Talk the talk is easy, what we need is walk the talk. I mean really walk, not moon walking like what MJ did.

No doubt about your sincerity , Dr. But the doubts remained on how to trust a judiciary system which clearly defies fairness and common sense. Have u forgotten what our CJ commented about Lingam’s case? Thats the thing of the past lah? Pure idiocy or that is what justice is all about in the mind of the power that be?

A little bird told me that Bintulu Gangster paid the Rotten Fish Head big money in many tens of millions for PKFZ. Money trail had been found. There is enough evidence to hang him and that gangster. But will they?

Probably Rotten Fish Head will die before the case is heard. He is suffering from kidney problem. He is an alcoholic. Do you know he drank while on the job? No wonder the transport system is such a mess.

You are guided by your conscience as so of us few are. Kudos to you, Dr Hsu. I am waiting to see charges against more people who corruptly benefited from PKFTZ fiasco before I allow myself to be persuaded this is not another ‘put on’ show. I think quite a few more Datuks need to be charged at the very least.

This is only one of the big sharks, perhaps a sacrificial one just to please the rakyat. From day one, i can sense this so called MCA president look like a crook. When he was in his prime as President, his son, only in his twenties nearly become a BILLIONAIRE. How amazing indeed. It does not take 1
+1=2 to understand the whole corrupted practices.Meanwhile, i also have the gut feeling this big white shark will go scoot free, ultimately, by the present bunch of judges in our so called tainted “judiciary”. No evidence, no documentary proof etc…. case “tutup” as usual.Happily, he will enjoy his billions….
Remember also, there are still plenty of big sharks involved in this PKFZ fiasco out there, now protected either by UMNO/BN or the super duper powerful tycoons.

I have restrained myself from commenting for quite sometime in this forum, since I am an outsider, and Malaysian may say, ‘this is none of your business’ or ‘mind your own business’.

But, since Dr. Hsu mentioned about conscience, which I believe one must has certain level of ‘morality’ in order to speak with conscience, I decided to put some thoughts over what Dr. Hsu told the Top, in blunt, no hold bar way.

Dr. Hsu, please tell the Top, the whole Umno need to infuse fresh new blood. Old bad blood lacking of oxygen and infested with virus and bacteria need to be totally drained of if Umno still want to stay relevant.

Top must be very desperate to attend the closed door meeting.

Old bad blood makan cili, Umno rasa pedas.

When only one person, however prominent that one person may be, is arrested and charged for a RM12 billion theft and scam, I do not rejoice. I become even more cynical and get even more worried that this country is even worse than I previously believe. Why? Because no scam this big which needed to be carried out over many years can be pulled off so successfully by one single individual, however smart that genius of an individual may be.

Until Ling was arrested and charged, the case was still very open. Now that Ling has been charged, and with no indication that he is only the first of many more to be arrested and charges in the near future, it is obvious to me that our corrupt government has taken the first step of a major cover-up operation.

Why Ling and not someone less prominent? No point speculating, just wait for the outcome of the case. However by now most knowledgeable Malaysians would surely be aware that in our boleh-land losing a court case can be as easy as losing a bet on the golf course, depending who is the criminal or opponent.

And congratulations to the MACC & AG. They have learnt how to make their cases appear more credible. No more appearing stupid by charging some insignificant underling, including one with a general manager status, for a RM12 billion scam.

Why not a complete cover-up? I believe that option was lost when Ong Tee Keat ‘recklessly’ (reckless in the eyes of MCA and BN, which is why he is no more MCA President and minister) pushed for and got approval for the official investigation which amazingly was completed and made public, and unfortunately for the BN government, until today OTK still has not shut big mouth on this matter.

According to Malaysia Chronicle, which was started by a former journalist, and according to my sources too, the top knows that he has to push for more arrest as well as conviction.. I spoke that MACC cannot be a tool of the government and must be independent, and to be credible, it must investigate without fear or favour.. The top knows that his time to act is limited, either he will be pushed out by another tsunami, or if he wins the next war, he may be pushed out by his Head of the right wingers, who is using teachers to build up his base to be even more powerful, and of course the OLD Horse and his tool the outsourced Right wing Group, is waiting to see who listen and who is good for his agenda… I suspect more will be charged… including MPs

He should also go after ‘ correct correct correct’ who has compromised our institution..

It is now either he pushes his agenda through or be pushed out. His brother is already voicing out about the drop in FDI relating to the uncertainties in the NEM which is supposed to be fairer, but which is being met with lots of resistance, mainly Perkasa, and their people in the BIg Brother party , and that is his way of using his brother to gain the support of the moderates and the middle ground to push thru economic reform, which will do away some of the excesses of NEP.. It is a race between him and M..N who is gaining support.

    Dr. Hsu,

Interesting, very interesting to know the inside story!

We will see how it develop.

Its eye opener to see ur stand as a member of BN component party and ur been vocal even toward Top. I beg even Gerakan President dare not do that!

Yes, someone need to speak out and PM need to hear what he really need to hear how the rakyat feel and u have not fail us!

Looking at what u write i feel is better for Top to stay than the M..N to come to power. Top needs to deliver and i thnik he is ‘delivering’ now by charging the Tun and at the same time being oversea holidaying. That tell us a lot, right?

As i said earlier, let’s wait and see how Top will deliver as i also can sense his sincerity too to deliver what he promise just we don’t have the insight story like u do!

Also, listening to the news recently, i come to know ICAC in HK also doesn’t have prosecuting power and the head seem to be against ICAC having that power bec it says it is open to abuse!
He siad it is better that the charges be done by another body so that the investigating can be fair and transparent and not open to abuse.

    Now which is which?

Dr. Hsu, all readers and commentators,

I just watched a tv programme on Da Ai Tv of Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation. It introduces a song by John Lennon, ‘Imagine’. I think it is beneficial to all to post the lyric here so to see how many of us here are ‘dreamer’. The song inspired me. I am a dreamer. Are you?

    Imagine there’s no Heaven
    It’s easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today

    Imagine there’s no countries
    It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

I think the method of current MACC are mostly reactive. They are waiting for the corruption to happen then only make an investigation, which this will not effective. JUst listen to 988 a week ago, the way of ICAC in HK are more into corruption prevention. The officer of ICAC will conduct an audit even to a meeting within the agency. The officer will sit in the meeting note down and listen if there is elements of corruption in the meeting. They also monitor the latest news and announcement by govt. official and corporate. If they sense their is corruption elements they will open the case even without someone reporting it. The announcement made by PM you help me, I help you definitely are corruption in the ICAC standard.
