The end of a chapter

I have made a major decision.

I have decided that on this anniversary of the March 08 General Election, I will quit Parti Gerakan. Not so much because of the party itself, which has a good ideology and many good members and many good friends, but more because of the dominance of UMNO over everything else within the coalition.

I am sick of race based politics and Gerakan is actually getting further and further away from realising its ideology of building a fair and equitable society.

My decision to quit is nothing personal and not against anyone in the party. Even though I am quitting , I am still hoping against hope that the party can eventually realise its ideology of a fair and equal society, but given the political reality, it will not be possible in any foreseeable future.

I have drafted the statements below in both English and Chinese to expalin the reason of this.

Press Statement by Dr Hsu Dar Ren  (08-03-2011)

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my resignation from all my positions in Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, including that of Central Committee member, FT state liaison committee member, division chairman, branch chairman and ordinary membership.

Parti Gerakan is a party with good ideology  to  establish a fair and equitable society in Malaysia . It too has many conscientious members who subscribe to this ideology.

Unfortunately, within the framework of BN, where the hegemonic race politics of UMNO predominates, it is  impossible for Gerakan to realize this ideal.

In fact, as a result of more than 5 decades of race based politics,  the country  has drifted so much apart that  racial polarization has never been as bad as now . Despite the many decades of trying to work from within, Gerakan is now further and further  away from  realising its ideals.

Three years after the 308 General election, I sense that  apart from rhetoric, there is little change in policies gearing towards uniting the people and providing a fairer and more equal footing for all. I feel that it is now futile for me to try to fight within the system anymore.

I have no intention of joining any other political parties, but I will continue to voice out through writing and blogging on the importance of building a fair and equitable society.

I thought I recognize the face on MalaysianInsider then discovered it is you. You made a principled decision reflecting your political maturity and will. Hopefully you have started a tsunami to encourage not just Gerakan members to do likewise, but also from other BN component parties, including even UMNO. You made a symbolic stand on this 3rd anniversary of the start of the democratization of our nation. May the momentum not cease until the results are achieved.

    Sir,
Be proud that you have given your best despite all those challenges, and that you continue to fight from within for so long shows your commitment to doing your all for a better Malaysia. I applaud you.
It is sad that the party does not have a stronger leader to uphold its idealogies. That the leadership can stand by and even support the master to undermine the people would have been exceptionally painful to you.
Not everyone can be a good leader and this is evident when one can nitpick and criticize the very wonders his successor has made with the rubbish he left behind. His successor has clearly shown that he can get things done. Yes he may have jumped when federal aid was not forthcoming but still he got the job done and fast.
Silence on Mr Phaih Ma Phikh’s(my wife calls him that) part should have been a better option, as he was given the opportunity to prove himself over a long period. His ‘choe boe taichi’ was graciously tolerated by the people for a long while but his continuous kowtowing to his master and his shameful acceptance of having his masters’ underlings walk all over him eventually became too much for the people to bear. He was a disgrace to the people and they had to get rid of him.
His being trampled all over pained and shamed me simply because I proudly have my surname in front of my given name. They say the Chinese are a proud race.
I applaud you for a great decision and most of all your dedication to continue to fight for the people.
    God bless.

So whn i read of yr resignation I was delighted n hope dat more constructive and outspoken analysis of the current affairs in Msia can be found on your blog once again!

Congrats again for freeing your self from the self-delusional Party n of course with due respect to the people who are still sane in there…

    Dr. Hsu,

Why quit with heavy heart? You should be relieved instead.

Since you were elected a CC member, I knew you shall end up with this quit decision. How can you have hope with eunuchs in there in the first place? They are numb with you playing thorn.

You should consider MCLM if approached by them. Anyhow, like you, those with MCLM don’t consider themselves as politician but sharing the same aspiration to see a fair and equal society.

Anyway, no regret since you have tried your best. Congratulations.

But I salute you on your effort to try and to give impartial opinion. Rather than siting in front of the computer and typed with only negative remarks, comments and thought in mind, you have given us another side of the thought.

U prefered to end yr chapter in Gerakan on this painful day of Gerakan and even go tru press statement as well as upload to net! Is it wise to do so as a knowledgible man like u? Aren’t u be too hypocrate? Don’t u wish everyody to praise u ? Are these yr intension? Otherwise u can just hand-up yr resignation letter quietly as what u had done when u signed in as a member in those day. Anyway this is a democratic society. I fully support your decision to resign from the party. Gerakan is no longer the party that it once was. Today it is a party of yes man. Please continue to strive for a fair and equitable Malaysian society. Let all Malaysians share the prosperity and wealth of the nation.
By the way I probably think that you are not aware that there are thousands of Malaysian government pensioners drawing less than RM400.00 a month which is very much below the poverty line. Workers in the public sector must serve in the civil service for at least 25 years to qualify for a minimum pension of RM720.00 every month. What these unfortunate pensioners are getting is insufficient to meet minimum family commitments. Please consider wring on the plight of these helpless pensioners in your blog in future. All the best from a fellow Malaysian who is watching with sadness poor citizens working under the hot sun earning a decent living and who are free from being corrupt.

    Janet,
even if i hand in my resigntion quietly, being a CC member, the news will spread and the press will speculate on all sorts of reasons, which will be even more harmful to the party image. I posted my statement in my blog, which is my private domain, like a diary. I posted it after I informed the president via an email to president’s prvate email as well as PGRMHQ email. Even in doing so,and stating very clearly my reasons for quitting, China press has speculated that there are other reasons, tht i resigned because president refused to meet me to discuss some grouses from the grassroots. Read the China press today. If i have not given a statement in my blog ( i sent to only very few sites, many picked it up from my blog), there will be even more wild allegations.

Actually the reasons are stated very clearly in my statements, and that is i am sick of race based politics, whcih we cannot seem to stand up to. Can you say what i have said in my statemnt is not the truth?? Be truthful to yourself, and listen to the ground, listen to the people in KL and Selangor and Penang, and Ipoh.

I am not blaming the party and in fact trying to protect the members in my statement. DO not be emotional and read it carefully.

I am looking at the big picture, and hope tht our future generations will have a lesser burden than us…i dont want my children an grandchildren to be called pendatang , but Malaysians, because they have every right to be Malaysians.

To me…this is the beggining of a new and better chapter for Dr.Hsu.
It is his destiny to move forward ….and be free from politics…free from a political party ….be an ordinary concerned responsible Malaysian..yo dfo his best not for a political party..but for country and people.
Now ..he can be a judge like all Malaysians…juding all political parties..joining the true powerful Third Force…the People’s Power…the voters.
A fair and just man cannot be a politician in Malaysia YET…until we try something else to stop race and religion politics….and there is no other choice but to vote BN out to stop UMNO B dividing all.
And the Third Force…the People’s Power must stay true to have the best interest of the country and Malaysians…and if DAP…keDAILan and PAS do not deliver…vote them out as fast as we vote them in.
Massive corruptions…double standards…arrogance…..ill mannered unqualified ministers ..fanatics and racists..all seen in UMNO B party..and their members have gone too far…with no fear..because they are programmed to be like that.
Unless all think UMNO B is not the mastermind of billions stolen through so call legal tenders with huge overpriced projects. Unless all think UMNO B is as clean as a whistle….all good Malaysians must vote B out in 13th GE…if you know they are rouges and thieves.
We have heard .. read and know murders are being commited with no fear.
These are not politicians governing our country.
They are a band of robbers and thieves trying to buy up the whole country through corruptions…spearheaded by Mahathir for 22 years as PM and on going..creating Malaysians monsters .robots and fanatics..feeling not gulty at all..as all of them love money and not God.
Now that Dr. Shu is no more a politician…he can help to covert voters for a change in government by speaking out all injustices and do not pray or hope UMNO B will ever change. It is wasting precious time.
The crimes are plenty and deeply rooted and Najib’s sole purpose is to keep fooling Malaysians as much as he can.
As a PM…it is just for show…with limited power.
The UMNO B Supreme Council have the final say…and all are hoping Najib and UMNO B can win 13th GE…or many will need to run like hell or elase .all will be investigated for so many corruptions.
If you believe Ling Liong Sik and Chan Kong Choy can fool the two PMs…your head needs to be examined.
Only through a new government can all Malaysians be sane and logical…as the power of persuasions and promotions by UMNO B is working well to capture weak minds to trust them forever.
