Malaysiakini’s latest news stated that DPM Najib has been made minister of Finance. in exchange, Pak lah is taking over the Ministry of defence.
On the surface, this seems to confirm what most analysts are thinking; that the transition plan in UMNo will be brought forward in an attempt to ward off external threat posed by Pakatan and internal threat by Muhydeen.
It is like trading “gold” in exchange of “guns” :), and this is not necessary a bad thing for Pak lah. Now that Ministry of defence is under Pak Lah, it will in a way strengthen his position if he plays his cards well. And if indeed Pakatan is not playing bluff and has enough MPs to form the government, a Ministry of defence under the gentlemanly Pak Lah would be able to ensure a smooth transfer of power.
I see it as a good thing that the 2 swap places, but hopefully the ‘golds’ would be well ‘guarded’ and ‘well spent’ to ensure a better growth for Malaysian economy.

Whatever reshuffling in the Ministry posts, it still plays little significant role. It is only one’ mental attitude of fairness and honesty in executing of one’s power is of utmost importance.
If there is still greed, discrimination, selfishness,
egoism that harbour in one’s heart, the result comes to the same, negativeness.
This impureness can break the backbone of one’s country if they are unheeded. Peace can only prevail if there is no abusing and misusing of one’s power of responsibility. Sincere action brings trust and respect from the whole citizens.

into any of them. No one can run away or manipulate this indiscriminate natural law.
Whether one believes or not lies in one’s degree
of knowledge of understanding, self-realisation and true faith.
Moreover, moral or virtuous values is compulsory
for both of these two laws… religious and secular laws.

This may help Anwar as he may force Tengku Ku li to side with him with Anwar offering Ku Li 3 years of leadership while he (Anwar) takes over the DPM’s post and strengthens Pakatan. The Age newspaper reported today such scenario is possible. With Abdullah and Najib closing the door on Ku li, I’m sure it will provide an opportunity for both to consider many other options and this scenario was also speculated on by the Financial Times in May, this year. This will also help Anwar as Ku Li is part of the Royalty and the King is married to his (ku li’s) niece, which makes him a tick in getting the King’s permission to form a federal govt. With Anwar bringing like 20 MPs and Ku li 10 MPs, or Anwar bringing 25 and Ku li 5, then we don’t need to wait any longer and I can bet on this option. Mahathir can’t influence the situation because in AMNO, you have to have power for you to be an effective person and that’s why he has left when he couldn’t make it. So, watch this space!

Seriously, Najib will be too occupied with his new role if he is really serious with it. This somehow will shift his focus on Umno coming election.

Finance Minister post should rightfully goes to Armisham instead. This is a position that requires ‘full time’ attention and should not go to politician.

DPM will probably find that digging for gold in Finance Ministry may be tough. There are quite a few already digging insitu :-). Current economic climate may just give for him some options to grant a few Treasury “letter of support” to some UMNOputra warlords in the hope of achieving his dreams to become PM. But, he could be running out of time even in that.
PM as Defense Minister may possibly avoid any possible C4 tendencies of the former and “dark hands” attempting to bring the Army into play to stop our desire for more transparency and less corrupt government
I pray AAB still have a few ounce of conscience and is as god fearing as his outward appearance seem to be.
May Dr Hsu’s assessment be right.

SAPP has the backbone to pull out of BN. As for MCA/MIC/Gerakan they are selfish and spineless lot. They only care for themselves. Just look at the “Free MP Teresa Parliamentary Caucus” campaign.
None of these spineless guys attended and support their release from ISA.
That goes to show the type of bums representing our rakyat.
I hope the East Malaysian people realise that SAPP action is for their own good.

Agree with True Malaysian that Amirsham would have been the better choice for the Finance Ministry as he has been a career banker.
But I sometimes wonder what Nor Mohd Yaakop is doing as he always seems to be the Minster of Finance II. Of course, he is also a career central banker, who was unceremoniously dumped after losing billions of Ringgit in forex trading operations years ago. But Nor Mohd does know Finance (maybe not trading !).
AAB leading the Mindef will allow him access to the Armed Forces …. will he send them out in times of dire political weakness ? I sincerely hope not.

I see the portfolio swap as a strategy by the two incumbents to dig in and thwart any internal or external attempts to dislodge their handover plan. This does not bode well for the country and for democratic forces of reformation and change. They are not going away no matter what the public demands, they want the status quo maintained for themselves and their cronies.
