Kill the chicken to warn the monkeys

The recent racist remark by a top aide to the Prime Minister may be a signal that all is not well in the dominant party.

A general in the field, no matter how brilliant he is, cannot win battles on his own. He needs to depend on his staff to plan, his subordinates to execute his orders, and most importantly, his foot soldiers to fight his war the way he wants it.

He can be as brilliant as Rommel, deemed one of the best tacticians in the Second World War, but without the support from the people around him, he will never be able to execute his war plans .

A prime minister likewise cannot transform his ideas into actions without the support of his staff and his ministry officials at all levels.

The Prime Minister may be very sincere in wanting to transform the whole political landscape with his 1Malaysia idea, but without the support of the people around him and the cooperation of the civil service, it would be like a general leading an army of discontented and disagreeing soldiers, each wanting to fight his own way.. Worse, this army may have  people bent on undermining the transformation plan. Maybe even a mutiny is possible.

The recent outbursts by this special officer, who is not new to politics, make us wonder whether there is any hidden agenda behind this.

This officer has been going round giving talks no less than 60 times over the past few months. Why the sudden indiscretion?

Any top leader knows that one of the worse things to happen to his image, other than perhaps a sex scandal,  is that of  his closest aide suddenly singing a different tune. It gives an impression that if  people closest to the leader and would thus be relied on to execute the orders of the leader are  not convinced of the 1Malaysia idea, how is this leader going to transform his ideas into action, and how is the whole transformation program going to work?

If there is resistance even at his sides, than it goes without saying that the resistance at party   level would even be greater.

It is natural for any change to be resisted, since it is human nature to resist change. But if there are resistance even at the level where the people are supposed to be handpicked by you and supposed to have sworn loyalty to you, than something is really very very wrong. It is indeed more than just embarrassment.

It is either that this aide is truly against the idea of his boss, or it could signal something even more sinister – that perhaps below the calm water, there are strong undercurrents ready to do havoc.  Either way, this is not a good sign.

It is bad to   lead an army that does not agree with your plan and tactics; but it may be worse if the whole army , under the influence of certain ambitious colonels or retired generals , try to sabotage and perhaps stage a mutiny.

It is up to the general to stand firm and start weeding out those singing a different tunes. An army must have certain discipline; and the general must exercise disciplinary action without fear or favour in order to send a strong signal to those who are in disagreement.

Sometimes, in politics as well as in battles, you need to kill a chicken to warn the monkeys to toe the line.

pendatangism is an idea often carried on their mouth and their mind.

    this isn’t the first episode.

    the first was from Penang.

his resignation and staging a ‘tea session’ with the police in the pretense of sedition is hardly ‘killing’, more of a soft spanking.

he should be punished as how previous leaders were being punished for sedition.

    why the blardy double standard?

Top one said he could not understand why after 50-60 times why this fella did something like this. This means there more things than meet the eye.

    1. If the fella is loyal to him he would know what to do. He would not sabotage the top one.

    2. This means some one had got to him. It also means someone if buying up people around the top one.

    3. If (2) is true, then the top one is done for. Unless he takes immediate action to purge the traitors, which i done see happening.

We just wait and see some firework. This is an opening shot. If nothing happens, another shot will be fired.

Yes, a pattern is emerging, the cow head incident, the “Allah” issue, Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa with Old Horse’s blessings and now the PM’s trusted aide ………………….

Are they trying to provoke war among the people?

The best thing for Malaysians to do is pray for peace, go about our daily lifes and ignore these provocations. These will frustrate the trouble makers and hopefully, God will help us through these trying times by eliminating these trouble makers.

Dr. Hsu, what a good analytical piece. You are 100% correct. To accomplish a complex project, one needs to manage a TEAM well. The players in that TEAM must be united, in harmony, the leader has to communicate his ideals and message well until it sinks in. Malaysia is such a divided society. We are all dumped into “classes” by the ruling elites. Every now and then, the outbursts of these ‘monkeys’ shows their true nature and intent. UMNO elites are beyond redemption. Najib tries his best to promote 1Malaysia but 40+ years of NEP, Ketuanan Melayu, the Rot has set in and the cancer has spread. You think Nasir is an exception, I doubt it. The future is indeed bleak by any measurement. I can’t see Najib succeeding. Its just empty sloganeering. The political will to embrace all into ONE society and be proud that we are all Malaysians is not there.

Let us go back to history: back to 1986 on the controversy on the “pendatang” issue:

In 1986, MCA selangor passed a resolution under “politics”: (Quote: Resolution)

“Base on historical facts, Malaysia’s 3 major races are orignated from other countries. Therefore, none of them should brand the other as immigrants and claim themselves as natives.

“In view of this, we urge the government to review the 1948 Seditious Act and to forbid anyone in describing others as “immigrants” (pendatang asing) so as to arrest polarisation.” (unquote)

The resolution was passed by Selangor MCA on November 2, 1986.

On the 3rd, UMNO youth then, Anwar reacted, (Quote): “UMNO youth will no longer keep quiet…will react to every statement made by MCA….” (unquote)

On Nov 4, UMNO youth exco Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz called MCA to quit BN.

On Nov 5, 46 UMNO MPs led by Mohd Rahmat held meeting (uproar) and passed a resolution to meet Dr M (PM). Matter raised in Cabinet and Ling Liong Sik (MCA president) announced matter resolved.

Nov 6: 100 UMNO members held demo in Cheras (Bandar Tun Razak branch) demanded resignation of Lee Kim Sai (MCA Sgor State Chairman) to be removed from Cabinet.

Nov 7: Former PM Tunku Abdul Rahman appealed for goodwill. Ling expressed and supported LKS.

Nov 8: Selangor MB Mohd Taib advised (reminded) MCA Sgor to withdraw resolution.

Nov 9: Kelantan UMNO lodged police report against Kim Sai.

Nov 11: Anwar led 300 demo at UMNO HQ Selangor threatening to hold a public protest, Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka Union staff lodged 2nd police report. UMNO Youth demanded apology from MCA.

Nov 12: MCA SELANGOR WITHDREW RESOLUTION (under the face of political pressures).

Nov 12: Cabinet meeting: Ghafar Baba announced Cabinet decision: stop labeling Malaysians as “pendatang.”

Let us trace back and see what the Cabinet decided: (quote) NST November 13 edition as reported:

“Deputy PM En Ghafar Baba, an UMNO VP, said Cabinet decided that:

    “According to history; Malays and other bumiputra races are the natives of Malaysia;

    “Other non-Malay and non-bumiputra races which had obtained citizenship enjoy the same rights as all other citizens;

“Historically, it cannot be denied that originally the Chinese came from China and the Indian from India. But after the country achieved Independence, a majority of them became citizens and had pledged their loyalty to the country. Therefore, IT IS NOT PROPER TO CALL THEM PENDATANG ASING; and

“It is important that the people of all races who have become Malaysians to cooperate with one another. Therefore, mutual respect for each other “MUST BE OUR WAY OF LIFE.”

And what did the UMNO Youth VP Najib Razak in 1986 said?

(Quote: NST Nov 4 edition): UMNO youth vice president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak describing the resolution as seditious and smacking of communalism,” said it represented a rejection of the Constitution.

“Selangor MCA’s denial of the right of the bumiputras or their position as an indigenous people is extreme and a distortion of history,” he told a press conference.

In 1986, Ibrahim Ali (now Perkasa chief who recently support the racist remark by PM’s aide) who was UMNO youth Exco then supported the demand to sack Kim Sai.

That was what happened in 1986.

And compared to the mere resignation of the aide is nothing compared to “hoo-haa” in 1986 against MCA leadership.

This is first class tribal politics.

Firstly, he said what was instructed & directed by PM himself, or Secondly this is clearly a sabotage.

There is probably a group who are out to undo this ‘family hierarchy’ that is ongoing or likely to be practiced in UMNO. Meaning after Najib, its Onn and after him its Dr 22’s son…..

They have my blessing. It time for the Malays (the common man / folks if I may say) to remove this horrible obstacle before putting or attempting to put this country back on track.

    Dear Dr Hsu,

Not only the Chinese and Indian migrating, more and more Malay are also migrating, and so fed-up with the direction of this country.

    Read what TheStar written today:

    THE MALAY DILEMMA

Malaysian Institute of Economic Research distinguished fellow Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Ariff shares his thought on the issue of brain drain and the Malay dilemma.

YES, the brain drain problem has become increasingly acute in recent times. This phenomenon cuts across ethnic lines, with more and more Malays joining the bandwagon, which is troubling and scary.

The government efforts to lure Malaysians back from abroad through the so-called “brain gain” programme have not yielded much results. It is a fact that many who had returned home to taking advantage of various incentives have subsequently left the country.

This does not bode well with the Malaysian economy as foreign investors are reluctant to get into a country where brain drain is a serious drawback.

It would be naive to think that Malaysian leave for greener pastures for more money. Money is not the end-all or be-all of human existence.

The government must look into the real causes of this haemorrhage: shifting its attention away from the “pull factors” to “push factors”.

The latter may include the outmoded education system, tarnished judiciary, rising crimes, gutter politics, and rampant corruption to mention a few. Malaysia needs skilled workforce to move into the next phase of development into the “high income” category. The government should focus on the negative side of the equation and plug the holes.

    Hsu,
The only way to change is to bring down UMNO. Not work with UMNO. Practically all political parties partnered with UMNO ended up being lap dogs
Gerakan has turned itself into a mosquito party. PPP no where to be seen. The only parties are those in Sarawak. Even then , these parties are bullied by SUPP
Even LKY’s PAP was chased out of Malaysia. 1Malaysia or Malaysia Malaysia or Middle Malaysia concept can only be acheived only if Malaysia is rid off political parties based on race

“Kill the chicken to warn the monkeys”, if I am not mistaken, is a saying from Chinese. But, in this case, why “chicken”? I would say kill the “monkey” is more app description here.

It is more like a jungle now, where a “monkey king” could not control his monkeys anymore as this monkey used to get whatever they want from this jungle rich of food, where they can hang like tarzan, swinging from one tree to another, effortlessly get what they want. They just couldn’t be convinced by their king that he (the king) can lead them to what they were before.

The monkey king realises that his jungle is no more like his ancestors’ time as this “jungle” can access to internet, information travels in the speed of light. His wrong doings are open secret now and his credibility is at stake. Monkey being monkey, they are clever yet cunning. It is definitely not easy to control them, especially there are new group of monkeys are ready to take over.

So, kill the monkey to warn the monkeys has no effect at all.

Meanwhile, while these monkeys are fighting among themselves, more and more animals that contributing to the food chain in this jungle start to leave this jungle. Even among the animals that this monkey clan used to take care of them.

Let me use cilipadi’s famous catch phrase here,

monkey makan cili, monkey king rasa pedas

After reading and thinking, the picture of Malaysian politics is falling into place, like a zig-saw puzzle, pieces fitting into a bigger picture.

The “politicians” we have especially in the ruling regime are nothing more than unevolved elementals, like viruses fighting anti-bodies for survival, for power and material wealth.

And they will pay a heavy price for it, for a long time. They belong to the war-like poltergeists that will take eons to evolve.
