I wish to say “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri” to all my Muslim friends.

    Tomorrow we Penangites who kicked out BN/Gerakan (Sorry, Dr Hsu) from Penang Govt will visit RPK in Kamunting. We can’t see or even hear him, but our roar outside will be like that of the Han Chiang High School Field roar during the eve of Mar GE in Penang (exagerate a bit).

    Justin, I wish I can be there but unfortunately, i have certain work to do tomorrow.

    My family and I have sent him cards.

    As for Gerakan, please do not apologise. The people is the boss, and when the boss deems the workers to be no good and change the workers, the workers must accept, and try to imporve themselves so that they can compete again with the present batch of workers. That is how i see it. The ‘sacking’ is a good wake up call and hopefully they can see that there is really no future with BN’s type of governance.

    I am not a Muslim nor any other religion, I am an atheist, a free thinker who believes in the Deity of Goddess of Mercy. What my belief is, Goddess of Mercy is a symbol of philanthropic love, kind and compassionate to all humankind, be they sinful or no sins, HE/She is the guardian God, the Deity who gives hopes to all of us who believe in Her!

    During the Raya Cina, we celebrate with the belief in the Deity, we pray on Her, we feel what She feels, we celebrate our Raya with a blissful, prosperous feelings. We bathe in concord atmosphere, in harmony and we wish friends, relatives and everybody the same, keep away all hatred and enmity in the days of auspicious!

    In this Raya Aidilfitri, perhaps is the last for Pak Lah in his capacity as the PM. I doubt he will enjoy this Raya in the same peaceful and serene atmosphere that we all use to have during our Raya, the Raya mood?! The people in red T-shirt with imprint of ‘Abolish ISA, Free RPK’ peacefully visit his open house, wish him with cards and teddy bear will have meant anything to him? Will have made any difference for him to remorse, for him to think back that there are people like him the humankind are in tears, with deep sorrows peeping through small windows to see and expect their love ones to come by with blessings and celebrate together with them in the hell hole detention camp?! So great a contrast in the open house with thousands of satay and biscuits and the worst than dog food provision in the camp!

    If I were Pak Lah, I will not have an iota of mood to celebrate! To our dismay, He seems to be unperturbed and can still pose with the kids to show that he is a father for all, in the usual posture akin to the politician, the hypocritical politicians, which is such a scene of disgusts!

    Just came back from Kamunting with Romerz.

    Two observations I like to share.

    1.The Penang group came with their BMWs, Mercedes, and MPVs. I have the good fortune to be “chauferred” in a Mercs. Thanks to my blogger friend Romerz. I was relieved that I didn’t drive there with my red Proton Saga!

    2. Of course we couldn’t even get near the main gate. But Marina was there and we “gave” her our unreserved support, flowers, cards and 2 songs. I took a cautious peep into the inside compound and saw a big sign “SELAMAT DATANG’. How come we couldn’t go in when it’s Selamat Datang? I think the sign is meant for RPK and his comrades inside.

    Kudos to both of you Justin and romerz! Just like the candlelight vigil held earlier at Dewan Sri Pinang, the regular 300 plus heads turned out and 80% of them were Chinese, what had happened to the other brethrens?

    Just hope that we don’t give up and keep the candles burning. Perhaps one day we will see the flames! God Bless!

    Justin and Romerz, I would like to join Frank to say that “kudos to both of you and the 300 odd people who turned out.

    I have often said that one candle may have very weak light, but if there are nought candles, darkness will be chased away and the blue sky can be back.

    Rest assured that there are many thousands of candles out there fighting for justice and hopint that ISA will be abolished and RPK , Hindraf 5 and others unfairly detained can be released.

    Off topic again but please allow me to share with your readers the recent announcement of the new president of PGRM.

    A president with mandate ….. finally

    Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon was returned as president of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia when nominations for the party elections closed yesterday. He won uncontested as he was the sole nominee for the president’s position.

    The purpose of this posting is not so much to congratulate him nor to condmen him but to share with my readers my perspective and knowledge of him and to guess what we can hope from him now that he finally has the mandate to lead the party.

    I have known Tan Sri for 22 years and I have never had any doubts to his honesty and sincerity as a politician. It is only after 8 March that I started to question his courage but never his honesty and sincerity.

    I got to know Tan Sri in 1986, when in my first job after graduation, I worked for his father’s company. He was then the political secretary of Tun Lim Chong Eu and had his service centre in the same building as my office.

    Occassionally, he would drop by my room and kick-off his shoes and get some rest and we would chat. At that time the company was already in financial difficulties and we would brainstorm on ways and means how to solve the huge problems facing the company. Never once in our discussions was there any talk of seeking help from the state government despite his closeness to the corridors of power in the state.

    I left the company in 1988 and I do not know what transpired after 1988 but the fact is the company managed to survive into the nineties before finally going under sometime in early to mid nineties (if memory serves me correctly). This is despite Tan Sri becoming CM of Penang in 1990, succeeding Tun Lim Chong Eu.

    My point is, if Tan Sri is a dishonest and insincere politician, surely his father’s company would not have gone under if he had chosen to use his authority and influence in government to lend whatever assistance to the company.

    Another incident later on had a profound effect on me when one day a friend of mine working in the USA returned to Penang for a holiday. I tagged along with my friend when he went to meet up with a friend of his working for PDC. (Tan Sri was the chairman of PDC then). Somewhere along the conversation, the subject fell upon the integrity of Tan Sri.

    He told us that a staff member of Tan Sri (within his inner office) was at that time living with her parents in a 1-bedroom flat in Rifle Range. She had applied for a low-cost apartment and was put in queue. Despite her boss being the CM of Penang, he would not fast-track her application.

    In 1998, I had a chance meeting with Tan Sri at the KOMTAR concourse and he enquired how I was and what I was doing. He then invited me to serve the Football Association of Penang if I had the time and was willing to serve my state.

    I took up his offer and joined FAP at sub-committee level in 1998 until I was promoted to Honorary Assistant Secretary of FAP in 2000. From 2000 till my resignation in April of this year, I’ve sat in many meetings with him and got to know him even better than when I worked for his father’s company. In all these meetings, I’ve found him to be precisely what he was originally when we first met, honest, sincere, friendly and without arrogance.

    Back to present day.

    Immediately after 8 March, I reacted badly to the election results. I had placed my trust in Tan Sri and Gerakan all of my adult life so what happened? It wasn’t easy to wake up on 9 March to discover that I’m so off-tangent with mainstream Penang. I was angry with myself and wanted to know why I was so blind to the developments as logic would dictate that these developments did not happen overnight.

    I embarked on a soul searching mission and read as much as I could from whatever sources I could lay my hands on to find out why I was so blind not to see the ground shift. Over the course of time I began to understand why and looked to see if Gerakan had begun to realize what I was starting to realize.

    Initially I was shocked to find that the party I had supported had nothing to say in the media so I took it upon myself to contact Tan Sri directly to hear what he had to say. To his credit, he replied all of my queries but I found his answers tentative since he was acting in the capacity of acting president.

    My intepretation of our exchange of communications gave me the impression that from 8 March till yesterday, he was acting as a caretaker leader and does not have the mandate to impose his will on his party. Such is the gentleman that he is that despite his position as acting president, he will not dictate his wishes until he is a president with a mandate.

    Recently, we have lost communication with each other because I have to admit that in my anger, I have been rather harsh towards him with my SMS and emails since the ISA fiasco. Anyway, I do know he reads what I write here since I alert his staff to my writings concerning him and the party and they acknowledge bringing it to his attention.

    So what can we expect of Gerakan and its new president? I think its too early to tell with a hotly contested elections for all the other positions. Having said that 11 October is only 6 days away and having waited patiently for answers for the last 6+ months, I’m sure I can wait the additional 6 days.

    I’m only speaking for myself but I believe there are many Penangites like me who had placed our faith in Gerakan all these years but now believe that the racial politics of UMNO, MCA and MIC has no place in a modern Malaysia. We would support a credible non-sectarian political party if it will make its stand and shun those who continue to practice the ketuanan concept of politics.

    For all the nobility of Gerakan’s founding ideology, it counts for nothing if it continues to fraternize with those who bring doom and gloom to our beloved country.

    I am hopeful that Tan Sri with his new mandate will do the right thing and bring Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia out of BN and fight for a better future for this country of ours.

    I appeal to Tan Sri’s concience to dig deep within himself and tell us what he intends to do with this mandate. Please no more “let us wait and see”. It may serve him and the party well but not ordinary Malaysians who have difficult choices to make.

    Please Tan Sri, do not let my belief of you these past 22 years be an error. Hard as it maybe (with all your responsibilities), make a stand ….. one way or the other. No more in-betweens please.

    Being the nice guys and trying to please everyone got you in this predicament in the first place.

    Enough is enough, no more having the cake and eating it too! Time to stand up to the hegemonists!

    Tan Sri, I made a promise to you in my letter to you of 20 April that if you bring Gerakan out of BN and away from that evil UMNO, I will join you (after being apolitical for 48 years) and sink or swim with you and that promise still holds true but time is running out.

    The choice is yours as the choice is mine too. I sincerely hope that it will not come to the point where I have to oppose you openly politically much as I have respect for your human qualities.

    I do not know about yours, but my doomsday clock is reaching 2 minutes before midnight. At midnight, our personal relationship will be in uncharted waters!

    There is no doubt about the kind of person our former CM is and so there other Gerakan leaders. But they are all softies and give way to the the big brother because all in their life the NEVER experience the political fights like JBJ of ex Worker party or LKS. Therefore they fail to speak out for the people who are their boss. Just look how some leaders jump like a frog to PR as there are better opportunities to be somebody in PR.
