Today I will post a shocking ( but to some of us quite expected) list of ranking of Gross national income per capita based on Atlas method and PPP, compiled by none other than the World Bank. ( or rather a link to the list).
Since this is done by World Bank, I think it is a credible list.
In Malaysia, we always tell each other than despite all the insuffciencies, we are still the best country . According to this list, we are now ranked 89, much further behind than some of the Africa countries like Gabon and Seychelles. It is lower that Estonia, Czeckoslovakia and Lithuania — these countries have opened up to adopt market economy only about 15 years back, more or less, being formerly communist countries without experience in capitalism.
It is even lower than Argentina which a few years back was a bankrupt country.
A few years ago, in 2006 to be exact, I wrote an article titled ” will Malaysia be Marginalised?” I mentioned that if we dont buck up, we will be overtaken, and now unfortunately, we have been overtakne by many countries, and it looks like if we dont arrest the decline, we will slide further down the rankings. To be 89 in a list of 213 is certainly not good.

I hope with the latest meeting with chinese economy congress and the statement by CSL, things can be better. As for me, i remain hopeful as i still believe PM sincerely want to change this country for the better. When u wrote in 2006 we were under another PM, remember?

What do you expect when tribalism rules the day in Malaysia?
We shall go down in history in the dump of failed state.
My son, oh how I miss his close company, but then he is earning an annual income of about S$100k working in an international bank based in Singapore, and he is barely 30 years old. He is no exception as many a non-Malay youngsters are all over the world making top money out of sheer merits and capability which this tribal country rejects.
In time to come, the ranking would slide even further to a shameful level.

1. Looking at the purchasing power parity data,
I note that Malaysia ranks even lower than
Romania (one of the poorer Eastern European countries)
2. South Korea’s PPP is now at 27,310 while Malaysia’s is at 13,530.
3. Even Panama is nipping at our heels.

We removes subsidies for the poor but increases subsidies of brain power to Singapore and….etc. Its the wise step to increase GDP indeed !

Mahathirism brilliantly converted imported labourers into a force of politics. This is called Mahathir’s economy-politics conversion theory. It works on both direction, only caution is it may accidentally shift our economy towards labour intensive when the reverse gear got jammed up.
Najibnomics is constantly on free gear mode. Its either he don’t know the function of the gear system or wants to save petrol so that more savings could be shared among the thieves.
