Eiffel Tower – lights off for 5 minutes

The Eiffel Tower’s 20,000 sparkling bulbs went dark for five minutes Thursday night and the lights went out at the Collosseum  in Rome and the Greek parliament in Athens in a demonstration of concern about climate change across the European continent.

This happened last night as a response to a report released by IPCC (intergovernment Panel on Climate Change) that global warming is real and is very likely “man-made”.

Many of us perhaps know all along that global warming is due to human activities, increased industrialisation, burnung of fossils fuels , deforestation. Now that experts all over the world have agreed that it is probably man-made, we hope that drastic measures can be taken to cut down the emission of CO2 and the research for alternative enegy can be hastened.

We are like the frog in the pot that I mentioned earlier, but now the frog has realised the danger, we hope that the frog will jump out of the pot before it is too late.

At least there is hope now!!

Professionalism – put your soul and heart into your work

A newspaper reported a story of how a hospital mix up resulted in a couple being seperated from their own son for more than 29 years.

The couple, Mr & Mrs Teo, had always known that the hospital had given them the wrong baby, because the baby’s features and skin colour was totally different from theirs. They had gone back to the hospital but the hospital authority had always maintained that there was no mix up.

Meanwhile, their own biological  son Zulhaidi was brought up in a Malay family and he always knew that he was not the real son as his features were that of a Chinese boy. He had to .come out to work at the tender age of 12, and worked his way through high school, washing cars, helping in restaurants and taking up odd jobs.

He was re-united with his biological parents when one of Teo’s daughter chanced upon him and realised that he looked exactly like her father. DNA tests confirmed the relationship.

Well, this case occurred in Batu Pahat, a town in Southern Peninsular Malaysia, 29 years ago when Mrs Teo delivered her baby at the hospital.
