Lunar New Year around the world

Today is the first day of Lunar New Year, which is celebrated by one quarter of the human race. I have posted some pictures below, from Yahoo!, Reuters, AP, AFP showing the celebration around the world. The captions are from this blogger.

In Shanghai, a little girl is offering prayers. Praying in temples on the first day of new year precedes all other activities, so as to ask for heavenly protection over the next one year.

Where else but in Beijing can you find such crowds waiting at Beijing Railway Station, rushing to go home to be with their loved ones. Re-union dinner on the Eve of New Year is the most important event in the whole of Chinese calendar.

In Hangzhou, a massive display of lanterns created a sea of redness.
