For those of us in our fifties, a show that all of us must have watched during our childhood is the “Sound of Music”. Even if you did not have the opportunity to watch that show, you must have heard of the song “Do, Re , Mi” or the theme song “SOund of music”, or “my favourite things”.
For those who have seen the show, the image of Julie Andrews running and hopping and singing with her guitar will forever be imprinted in our minds.
And we will always remember how the family risked their lives escaping from the rule of tyranny, the Nazis which annexed Austria just before the start of the Second World War.
And of course, the Von Trapp family of 7 children. DO you ever wonder where are the children now?
I received some photos via email on their reunion after 40 years.I thought some of you might want to see how they are now :

The patriach, Georg Von Trapp, was a hero in World War I.
When the Nzis came to Austria, he was offered a naval command as well as an poortunity to sing at Hitler’s birthday.
Had he accepted , he would have been an Admiral in no time. Germany at that time was the strongest military power and no one foresaw that they would lose the War.
BUt Von Trapp stayed to his own principle , and refused to served in the German Navy.
The purpose of posting tis artilce has this deeper meaning, apart from sharing with you the photos, and our memories of the wonderful show.

I never forget about the movie as well. Same like you, about Maria running around freely in the backdrop of moutainous Austria, and of course the song, Do Re Mi,

Well, Dr. Hsu, your family has some similarity of the von Trapp family, where you and your children are musical talented. You, like von Trapp, if accepted appointment from Gerakan / BN, would make you into VIP by now. But, both of you didn’t, haha. For same reason or otherwise, it is anyone guesses.
Many people, irrespective of our colours and beliefs, like this movie. We can see the show is very heavily “Catholics”, but people worldwide still like it. Why?
The reason is very simple, because of the family values that it showed us, which hold the family together even in tough time.
In this, Malaysia has many to learn from this von Trapp family. Never mind the real and fictional ones are different, but the gist are the same. von Trapp refused to be “Trapped”, why not us Malaysians?
It is time for us to look beyond colours and beliefs, not “Trapped” with our old mindsets.

ohh!! such a lovely movie, i can’t help it to replay the movie again and again… i started to watch it when my mother told us about the movie, the SOUND OF MUSIC.. it became their movie essay when she was in high school.. so my mother went to rent a movie tape for us to see and watch. i was only about 7 years old when i officially watched the movie.. after of so many years, after my elementary, high school and college life, i told to my mother to bought a copy of the movie, we grabbed the last copy of it in the record movie house.. and until now, together with my nephew, we use to play it over again and again,.. hehe i love the song of sound of music, while maria used to play it on the hill and while the children performed the song in front of the baroness.. oh and the puppet show, it such a lovely music… and funny too.. i am thinking where could i find those kind of puppet.. haha… the song played by leizl and rolfe, the i am 16 going on 17, and the romantic night of the captain and maria… i use to sing it everyday.. haha
The movie really gives inspirations, learning, and all to the viewers especially for the children.. thanks to the VON TRAPP FAMILY…

It’s not just people from their fifties who absolutely this amazing, classic movie – for my sixteenth birthday, this year, I got the bluray of the Sound of Music! Before that, I had to be content with an old tape… was still amazing in the not-too-good condition!

i loved the movie the sound of music i heard from a friend of mine who is deaf that she met a lady who is deaf or hard of hearing is the real daughter of the von trapp family and she lives somewhere dont know???? where but i lived in germany when i was a boy for 13 years my mother is german and she was born 1931 germany and lived through the war in germany at that time with hitler ruled and stuff i really am glad that the von trapp escaped but the home is still there in salzburg austria i am curious of any of the family still own the house there and if any take vacation stay at the home there during the vacation there.i have been to salzburg austria when i was very young and visited the salt mine there and didnt know about the von trapp home there,that was before i heard about the movie the sound of music.with julie andrews she portrayed the lady who took care of the children she did a wonderful portrayal of a loyal nun who loved the family and capt von trapp. i am glad she married him and was happy then. the kids loved her all the more. i am also happy they are living today and escaped that night i dont blame them for doing it, i would have done the same too, thank you to the film crew and hollywood who did this movie of the family who was the true story of them. merry christmas to you all in german means frohe weichnacht if i remember the spelling of this german word. i can also speak some german too oh well blessing to all of you great job to julie andrews

My God, the actor who played Fredrick is so good looking. I remember as a child, watching this truly magical film for the first time and thinking ‘Fredrick is my favourite!’
Now that he has grown up he has managed to retain a truly handsome face. Some of the others, unfortunately, look a little worse for wear (Liesl).
I teared up when I saw that clip of them all singing Edelwiess together. Beautiful!

Thanks for the update. We have stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge a few years back and it was a wonderful experience. I wish I had met Maria when I was in school in Vermont.
