The majority is 1,854.

This is actually the results that many, including this blogger, expected. This, coupled with the ‘KT bye-election’ shows that majority of the people in West Malaysia are still voting for the opposition. They do not buy the story that BN has reformed..
BN, despite the awesome by-election machinery, is unable to achieve any break through in West Malaysia.
Whereas during 308, people in West Malaysia simply wanted to teach BN a lesson for being so arrogant and corrupt, this time around, they sent a message that they are all for a change , and that the course for change is still very much on target. Unless BN especially UMNO reforms, they are going to face a big shock during the 13 the GE, if the present trend continues. It is however the belief of this writer that BN (and UMNO ) will not reform unless it loses a general election.
From the wins by PR in the 2 Bukits, it can be seen that non Malays have really starting to accept PAS, since in their minds, anything is better than UMNO, and the notion that nothing can be worse than the present is still very much in vogue..
BN leaders have been telling their grassroots that the Malays votes have returned. Although I have not had the breakdown of voting streams, it can be safely concluded that even if these leaders are right, the return of the Malay votes cannot be too significant, bearing in mind that these 2 bukits are Malay majority seats.
As to Gerakan, it has campaigned hard, especially its wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe, who had practically camped in BUikt Gantang all these times , as well as the Perak members who had worked very hard, they are still not able to achieved much breakthrough, even though this is their traditional stronghold; one of the Duns within Bukit Gantnag, Kuala Sepetang, used to be won by Gerakan…
The result is a clarion call to Gerakan that the people in Gerakan’s former strongholds, as represented by Kuala Sepetang, will not vote for Gerakan in the next GE if Gerakan remains as part of the BN coalition. The only way for Gerakan is actually to opt out of BN… If it is to have any realistic chance of surviving the next GE..
With this win in Bukit Gantang, the people of Perak have spoken and that the authority should seriously consider dissolving the Perak assembly and let the people of Perak decide who should rule Perak in a new State Election.

Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon said BN should not feel disheartened over losing two out of the three by-elections.
“Instead, we should look at the results as a reminder to BN to effect reform more concretely.
“If so, it might be a blessing in disguise for BN in the long run,” he said in a statement.
He admitted that the results showed BN has yet to turn the tide in regaining support from the people, especially the non-Malay voters.
He added that BN should learn lessons from these by-elections and retune its strategy and approach.
This will be the great challenge for the next two years.
“As BN is still leading the federal government, BN has a good platform to perform, implement positive reform and good policies benefiting the people.
“In winning Batang Ai by more than last year’s margin, it shows that BN still has the confidence of Sarawak’s rural people,” he added.

Just read the typical UMNO warlords, like Perak UMNO secretary Ramly Zahari giving “grandfather’s stories” why his party’s candidate lost Bukit Gantang.
He blamed Pakatan state government giving land titles. But if UMNO gives, it’s OK!
He blamed non-Malays supporting Pakatan for its populist policies. This idiot like a dying chicken trying to kick the kwali cover (Cantonese saying: 4 kai chang fan coy), these poltergeists never learn.
The two bukits are important, meaning that UMNO is half dead in the peninsular particularly in mixed seats. We don’t have to read or listen to doctorate analysis to know that it is a referendum not only on the new emperor but the old dictator who has been showing his new fangs again after he had took it out because he didn’t like the sleepy fellow. Hypocrites aplenty. Should we still listen to this old senile retired croc?

The top leaders of gerakan still love umno and hoping against hope that the people will go back to them. Likewise for mca leaders. The grassroots must take the initiative to move out if their leaders are so naive to believe that umno will change.
My thinking is the same as yours, Dr,Hsu;

The writing is on the wall again for Gerakan. KTK was quoted as saying BN need some more changes.
Can’t he see that the Chinese in Gerakan heartland is rejecting it again. First time, it could be a mistake. Second time, it is real bad sign. Guess he is salivating for the minister post.
By the way, MCA said the pom pom girls was Gerakan doing, not MCA. It just showed how low Gerakan has fallen. or is it MCA pushing the blame to Gerakan.
(the pom pom girls reminded me of the modern “opera” staged for the ghost month. You can find this during this month at the side of SS2 food court. Now wonder.)

Forgot to add.
Now that Gerakan is confirmed as reject by its heartland, it will be a disgrace to have KTK made minister by backdoor listing.
1. If Najib listen to the people, then he should not do this
2. If KTK has any honour, he should not accept if offered
Other vested interests in the selection of the cabinet will be seen as what it is – self interest and not the rakyat’s interest.
So we see tomorrow if KTK has any honour or if he is a teochew.

Not only has this by election shown the lack of relevance of Gerakan, it has also shown the irrelevance of MIC in the Bukit Selambau results.

Results 2-1 were the best PKR could realistically hope for. The push for change is still on. Even if the next few days msm news will be full of excuses as to why BN-Umno lost in the 2 bukits, I am prepared to put up with it. It is better than the expected sycophantic spin had BN-Umno won in any of the 2 bukits. The people of Perak have spoken through the ballot box. What now, PM Najib?

Koh Tsu Koon cannot look beyond the next general elections, that Gerakan will be wiped out for sure. He’s only interested in landing a minister post for the immediate future. He is interested in being a minister without power just like a Chief Minister without power.
The bare truth is that none of the non-Malay ministers and deputy ministers have any real decision making power. They are sometimes overridden by state Director-Generals. Important responsibilities are usually taken over by other Ministries. For example, the Transport Ministry (usually held by non-Malay) does not regulate taxi and bus licenses, it’s the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development.
MCA’s Ong is another willing eunuch, asking for a second DPM post. What is the use of being a DPM without power? Maybe these eunuchs are just interested in the perks.

That Kuala Sepetang with 97% Chinese voters and 85% of whom voted for a PAS candidate, despite the dancing girls that Gerakan (at least that is who MCA blamed) put up to draw in the crowd there, is very telling of the tide of change.
PAS who have always been demonised and made a bogeyman, ironically by Malay-Muslim UMNO themselves, has proven they are fair and very acceptable to the non-Malays.
Indeed, PAS is for All !!
Gerakan, who has but abandon its own ideology, but now is just a parrot for their political master, is really a shame.
Even more so, if KTK is to accept a Ministership via backdoor. Just like Chang Ko Youn is appointed “Chinese Affair Adviser” to the illegitimate Perak MB wannabe Zambry.
Hey, and I thought Gerakan is a multi-racial party, what business it has to do representing “Chinese”, through a backdoor entry to Perak State Govt ??

That is given the current scenario of an unchanging UMNO and continue harping on Malay supremacy. I hope these tribal warlords will not change and I might be right.
It’s not easy for UMNO to change after decades of grooming racists and self-serving warlords bent on punishing the value system. Without a value system and political will in place, UMNO leadership with the current corp of tainted leadership will not make changes possible. Even the 2nd lieutenant has a tainted past which was the reason Dr Monster transferred him to federal level. Not to speak about other “crooked stooges” always in self-denial of facts as to why their ship is sinking further despite a new captain taking over the steering wheel.
In the Sarawakian Batang, the ship reached the harbor because as allegations circulating in public, large amounts were used in the name of Iban votes and practically covering all the long houses. But the main factor is the “yet-to-be-matured” political awareness of the Iban population which UMNO has practically neglected (as a tactical ground if they are not educated politically) unlike voters in the peninsular. Early Malayans used to be like the mindsets of Ibans now when they were in the 50s and 60s. But again we had better political leaders in the 50s and 60s.
MCA was truly helpless this round despite the lavish dinner and the dancing girls. Like leaking sampans, MCA and Gerakan sailing alongside with the supreme Titanic will meet the same fateful destiny soon enough.

Time to move on and change is the keyword here for BN and Gerakan. Gerakan need to work harder and mobilize their party workers. Are we underestimate PR? They too have their party workers, machinery, new media, advertisement in Chinese press and leaders throughout the nation camping here throughout the campaign.
Emotion still ran high among the non Malays voters here. BN need better tactics and strategies to win back the lost support from the voters. All is not lost and BN need to have better policies in a multi racial, multi cultural and multi religious society. Let give the new PM a chance to bring greater height for our nation.
